[UPDATE] Skull of Cabbage: Day 7

A week out and the Skull of Cabbage is holding up remarkably well. What I thought was a smell the other day, was actually not coming from the cabbage, but from some nearby compost. I'm pretty surprised at how not gross it is! At this point it seems to be mostly shrinking/shriveling up. I wonder if it'll eventually reach a state of stasis, like a dried flower...

Now I see something like regret in its eyes... a new emotion every day...

If it does completely dry, similar to that of dried flowers, I am going to have to make a small one myself and then preserve it.

Isn't lettuce like, 80 percent water? I can't imagine it being too offensive as it rots.

It's like a shrunken head. Very cool.

I'm surprised it's not getting stinky. Cruciferous veggies always stink up my fridge, especially if I forget that they're in the back of the crisper drawer. Maybe it's because it's getting enough air circulation?

What i was worried about, Noah, was you waking up one day to a truly horrifying puddle of deliquescent cabbage, and would be so stricken that your mortality would be dealt a fairly severe blow, thus resulting in a firm stop to all skull-related artworks.
But then i saw mady's comment, and i concur! Must be the good circulation that is keeping it in such tip-tip shape. Now, if only there was a taxidermied rabbit somewhere that you could give the Shrunken Head Cabbage to... too much?
