"The Good Fight" Skull

It isn't very often that I see a piece that I can relate to on a really personal level. This is one of those pieces. Entitled, "The Good Fight", it is an oil painting created by Scott Saw of a skull combined with a heart. Information on prints, is available through his newletter.

It's the combination of the two things that is striking. Life is very precious and simply put, you need your heart in which to live. I myself am an owner of a delicate heart, for which I scarily became aware of half my lifetime ago. This is something that I will always have and makes me appreciate the life that I do have. Despite my heart condition, I do have the privilege of enjoying the life I have to the fullest capacity I can. In general, life is too short not to. Regardless of pre-existing conditions, you must take care of your body as a whole, you only have one. To me, skulls always remind me of how short life really is. You have one chance in which to live it, so live it well doing what makes you happy. On my skin, above my heart, I have tattooed a butterfly. Butterflies are not an abnormal image in which to have tattooed, but to me, it is a reminder of how, like a butterfly, my heart is delicate and I must treat it gently. It also represents freedom, but that is a story for another time.
