They are something I love to incorporate into my own skull pieces. For this piece, I like the idea of working with the random things you find. The contrast of the flower color against the slate rocks is nice. The arrangement of the flowers reminds me of a sea flower that might house creatures. Being this piece is in Hawaii, it's possible plants like that exist there. Hopefully one day, I can visit there and get to enjoy the tropical beauty.

**Flashback Friday was a weekly countdown of the fan selected top 52 skulls of Skull-A-Day 1.o. Also, steer skulls make me want Mexican food for some reason and I'm always in the mood for that. I like the idea of taking random things you find and making it into something else. That concept is sort of what this whole project has been for all of us. In this case, Noah used dry leaves to create a cow skull. I've loved butterflies since the 1st time I ever saw them. I love them so much I have a female Eastern Tiger Swallowtail tattooed on me. Noah's careful arrangement of delicate insects includes butterflies, moths and beetles. I can spot 4 male Yellow Eastern Tiger Swallowtails (the yellow ones with black tiger stripes...hence the name). They are the state butterfly of Virginia, where Noah and I live. They are also the state butterfly for Delaware, Georgia and South Carolina. I can definitely attest that there are many of them in the South. The Brookgreen Gardens in Myrtle Beach, SC has many beautiful Swallowtails. The Audubon Nature Institute in New Orleans, LA has even more fly around the zoo. The experience of being surrounded by these delicate creatures is magical.

**Flashback Friday was a weekly countdown of the fan selected top 52 skulls of Skull-A-Day 1.o. One, yesterday was Thanksgiving, so this reminds me of the many turkeys that were consumed yesterday. A feather skull, seems appropriate. The other reason is that simply it's a beautiful and delicate piece. Feathers are temperamental to work with. I make fascinators and other hair accesories, where I use feathers. You might have lots of down on you when you are done, but you also have a beautiful delicate piece to be proud of. I like how Noah used the natural curves of the feathers to shape the skull details in the face. The side and back of the skull have a lumpy texture, but I've never seen a smooth skull, so this works well too. I have the sudden urge to break out the messy feathers and make more hair accessories. It's like Hermes for your head.

**Flashback Friday was a weekly countdown of the fan selected top 52 skulls of Skull-A-Day 1.o. I like that the bones are layered over each other. It gives some structural stability and casts shadows to the bones below. My aunt (now deceased) taught me how to do latch hook when I was a young girl. I still have a partially done rose project that she gave me. This makes me want to finish it and add it to the collection of finished ones. For this skull piece, I like that Noah took an existing kit, rearranged the colors and pattern, so he could make this. I like the use of monotone colors for the shading and highlights. The colors remind me of coffee, tea, tobacco, orange juice, spices, tar and dirt that might be ground into a well used rug. I wonder if you could dye yarn with such substances.

I understand that he did this in one day, which I know from experience is really rough on your hands. Especially the knuckles which can drag across the rough canvas as you latch hook the yarn. In Ireland, the original Jack-O-Lanterns were carved from turnips to scare away the mythical character Stingy Jack and general evil spirits. If you read the story, you will see why we call them Jack-O-Lanterns. The classic Jack-O-Lantern face is supposed to represent a skull, so of course carving more distinct skulls into squash or pumpkins is perfect.

Gourds are the perfect plant for carving. Their flesh and meat are easy to carve into and hold up well to detailed shaping. I like how the white one still has it's seeds. It's like peaking into a brain through the orbital and nasal holes. The choice of color is of course, very close to a natural skull. I like the butternut squash's elongated jaw. In a way it reminds me of Edvard Munch's "The Scream", but with finer details due to being a sculpture vs a painting. Noah is very good at carving fruits and veggies, so it was hard to choose my favorite, but these two were something different than the now traditional pumpkin carving, so I thought they would work best for today. They also give you a refreshing idea of what else you can use to carve your Halloween Jack-O-Lantern.

**Flashback Friday was a weekly countdown of the fan selected top 52 skulls of Skull-A-Day 1.o. One day many years later, I found a Cyndi Lauper record at a thrift store, which was the 1st single that my parents bought me as a kid. I knew it then that I needed a record player, so my parents bought me a record player for my birthday. I've enjoyed many hours of listening and dancing to my now large record collection. Recently, I inherited my grandmother's record player cabinet. We used to listen to swing and big band on it. You can see now, that records have a special place in my heart

2) I know as an art medium, vinyl records can be temperamental to work with. I commend Noah for being able to cut through this record without warping it. The curves of the skull are evocative with the curves of the concentrate circles of a record. This makes me want to play my records.

**Flashback Friday was a weekly countdown of the fan selected top 52 skulls of Skull-A-Day 1.o. That being said, I was the one that had to dissect it. My classmates didn't enjoy my willingness to poke organs with my scapula. That was in middle school and then again in high school. I think those experiences helped form the creepy individual I am.

**Flashback Friday was a weekly countdown of the fan selected top 52 skulls of Skull-A-Day 1.o. I could eat it daily. I've seen novices attempt to make it and to me it seems rather hard to do, because if you don't roll it with the right amount of pressure, it will fall apart on you. Still, messy roll or perfect roll, it's still yummy. I love how the bell pepper and carrots are used to form the eyes and teeth of the skull and the nori to form the cranial details. If the bell pepper was replaced with tuna, I would have it now...for breakfast...yum.

**Flashback Friday was a weekly countdown of the fan selected top 52 skulls of Skull-A-Day 1.o.
