101. Tattoo Skull, Self-Inflicted

Tattoo Ink in Skin. I've got plenty of tattoos (several of which feature skulls), but I've never tattooed anyone else before and certainly not myself. The whole thing took maybe 15 minutes to do, was relatively painless, and I actually quite enjoyed the experience! Yes this is real, yes this is permanent, yes I used sterile equipment, yes I took the photo with my left hand (not easy). So who wants the next Skull-A-Day tattoo?

P.S. My sister thinks Skull-A-Day should be featured on the Ellen show. She says if we all tell her via the Ellen site it might have a chance. How about it, want to give it a go? The more folks that suggest it the better the chances. Here's the LINK.

  2. Dude. Hard Core. I love it. How did you end up tattooing yourself? Is there some sort of at-home kit?

  3. True dedication. Where did you put this tattoo?

  4. I've been thinking about buying a tattoo machine, where did you get this one? What did you think about it?

  5. I think the key is having a skulladay entry that is somehow Ellen Related. I would think it'd be a no brainer then.

  6. Tribute to the man in Black now self tattooing. Someone may think you spent some time in the joint.

I guess dedicating a year of you life to a project is kind of like being incarcerated.

"Skull-a-Day 4 Life" pour a little out for the skulls no longer here.

  7. Teresa: Thanks for your confidence in my total lack of tattoo skills, however I was kidding about doing more (for now)! If you must get a Skull-A-Day tattoo (and I would truly be honored), go to a professional shop and send me a picture!

Crafty: It's on my inside left ankle, it was the easiest place to get to with my right hand.

Erin: Thanks! Sorry, I can't say more on the subject.

Alexndr: I suggest getting an apprenticeship at a tattoo shop before buying anything. I'm not a professional and don't feel comfortable making any other recommendations about this.

Terry: Thanks! Hmm, what would an Ellen skull look like?!?

    C: Word.

  10. Hey Terry and ALR! I think the tattoo would have a button up shirt and blazer, that is what she wears every day! Try that! HA HA! I nominated you both!!! You BOTH deserve to be on the ELLEN SHOW! Hugs & GOOD LUCK!

  15. I emailed Ellen. I told her that we went to prom together.

For some reason I think she will be interested that you went to prom and are not some creepy guy. ;)

  17. Amazing tattoo. For some reason, it reminds me of House Of Leaves. And I nominated the website for Ellen! Now to wait. When do the new episodes start? Does anybody know? I need to set my Tivo to record the episodes when they start.

  21. As you can tell by my name... I would LOVE a Skull-a-day tattoo!

Terry is right, mak an Ellen related skull and it would have a better chance.

  22. FWIW, you peeps can get your very own tattoo equipment on eBay. LOL. Seriously. ARL, you're obviously in it to win it, as shown by this tattoo. First time for ya?

  24. Kevin: I love House of Leaves!

Kim: You can see tiny pix of my other skull tattoos as part of the #63 Mosaic Skull

Tatman: Hey, if you actually get a tattoo of any of the Skull-A-Day skulls and send me a picture I'll send you a signed numbered print of the #49 Linocut Rat Skull, it's the least I can do!

And what the heck, that offer goes for any other hardcore fans out there too.

  25. You do? Awesome! To tell you the truth, I've only ever met one other person who ever read it. It makes me sad that my friends don't know it exists, but they make up for it by introducing me to all kinds of indie rock. Okay, enough rambling from me.

  26. I sent in my vote to Ellen too.

Also, I would love to get a tattoo just so I could get a sweet print... but alas... I am far too great of a pansy

  27. Well now I'm jealous. I didn't do mine myself, but I did get mine drawn on freehand by the artist. Yours is a bit cooler tho :) Mine's on my right wrist, and I thought I had a picture on flickr but I can't seem to find it :/

I have a bit of an obsession with skulls & crossbones and my hubby sent me a link to this blog for the font - now I'm going to read it every day for all the great art! Keep it up!
