96. Squash(ed) Skull

Carved Local Organic Acorn Squash (4" x 4"). I just couldn't resist this cute little guy in the grocery store the other day. Definitely felt like a hint of jack-o'-lantern carving to come. Are you as excited about the approach of Halloween and Dia De Los Muertos as I am?

To see what happened to this squash 4 days later go HERE.

  3. so excited i could pee my pants... even my 3 year old has caught on, and asks me (nearly daily) if we can decorate the house yet.

    p.s. today's secret code -
yqtala - i expect it's probably some sort of illuminatus branch of freaks...

  6. Very cool. For those of you playing at home, this crosses another idea off the original suggestion list. ;-)

  7. As I've been following along here, I have found myself curious how long it takes for you to start/finish one of your pieces?

  8. Wow, thanks for keeping track Tim!

DD: It ranges from 1-4 hours on average. Often taking the photo can take as long as making the piece! This one took about 2 hours from start to post.

  9. I am very excited about Halloween, it's my favorite holiday even above Yule. Unfortunately I do feel that the stores are starting it way too early though. Then they're going to get Christmas in probably at the end of September.Seeing Christmas stuff in stores before Thanksgiving bums me out.

  11. I was struck by the paleness of the squash and how it adds to the effectiveness of this skull.

  15. Well, I've created a monster. Mom's list has grown: Cotton, tomato, toothpaste coffee grounds, shag carpet, cigaretts, dirt (earth), tape i.e. vhs or sudio and fruit loops. LOL And I've come up with: peanut shells (painted or drilled... whatever you can think of, they all rock), get someone who will let you shave it into their hair... That's what I have so far. Geez, this is a great project! My mind is always alert to skulls/skull materials. Cheers!

  17. Love this skull. There isn't the emphasis on Hallowe'en in the UK that there is in the US but I can feel the Hallowe'en spirit in my veins already. Yeah! I love it!
