316. Black Velvet Skull

Acrylic Paint on Velvet (framed size 17in x 19in [43cm x 48cm]). Thanks to fan Todd Budnikas for suggesting this one on the Skull-A-Day Facebook page. I picked up this frame at a local thrift store; it originally contained a faded picture of ducks, which is actually under the velvet now! The image is based on the same photo from the Paris Catacombs that inspired my first Skull Stencil!

  1. Velvet paintings are so cool. Nice work! I remember too many of these from my childhood that were of creepy clowns. The Elvis ones were always nice though. How does this look under a black light?

  2. I can't believe you did a painting on velvet. I love it.

  3. Much more sinister than most velvet paintings.

    Also...ONLY 50 SKULLS LEFT

  4. Thanks! It's a pretty satisfying medium to work in, but much more difficult than I expected, since there no correcting mistakes!

  6. :) I was thinking Elvis, too. Or the poker-playing, cigar smoking bulldogs. But this is much, much creepier.

Black Velvet with that skull-a-day style.

Maybe you could make a long-term loan here when you finish.
