Sculptor, inventor, imagination architect, digital adventurer, and troublemaker. Joshua Harker is one of the most recognized artists working in the 3D printing medium. He became known for "making the unmakeable" with his Tangles series which hold rank as the very first organic forms of such complexity to ever be created. He most recently became an internet sensation using crowd-funding to disseminate his art and currently holds the #1 & #4 most funded Sculpture projects ever on Kickstarter (Crania Anatomica Filigre & Anatomica di Revolutis). Depicting the bittersweet experience of love & loss as well as suggesting that love is what you make of it. The anchor & chain are intended to symbolize the security of steadfast loyalty in stormy seas and that which keeps you from becoming aimlessly adrift. The arrow is love's tool of capture and the weeping tear symbolizes the pain of loss. The suspended ring demonstrates the promise of commitment. The skull is the symbol of the end of us all and the reminder of living in the present. Dimensions: 4.5" x 2.0" x 7.2" (11.5 x 5.1 x 18.3 cm) Material: 3D printed polyamide (essentially a nylon/glass powder fused together with a laser)
IF YOU DON'T WIN: This piece is available in alternative colors as well as other work created by Joshua in his store HERE.

ReplyDeleteThat scarlet skull would be worn at pelvis level and join me, and my full sugar skull make up, out to scare small children and receive disapproving looks from the elderly. Eventually we'd end up at an Art centre where we'd stand, defying anyone to try and move us and say we aren't meant to be part of the exhibition. Bored of the normal people, we'd head home, trash the bedroom and then I'd lovingly hang it from Satan's horns on my wall.
ReplyDeleteSounds epic!

ReplyDeleteI would take this skull out to the cemetery that my great grandfather nine generations back Duncan McArther is resting. He was the 11th governor of Ohio. The cemetery is located at the top of a hill in the middle of Chillicothe, Ohio, with a beautiful view of the small city that was the first capital of Ohio. I would fix us a romantic meal of bacon stuffed grouse and fondue which we would eat on a blanket as we watched the sun set. The skull and I would head to Vermont for a weekend of dating while competing in the Death Race. It would be on my hip as I trudged thru mud, water, up mountains and thru ravines, and watch me chop wood, carry rocks, perform dead lifts, and laugh while I suffer thru 1000's of burpees and squats. The when I'm done, it'll cheat on me with the skull trophy I'll get for finishing the race. Can't trust a skull anyways.

I would start by taking it to the Bodies Revealed Exhibit currently on view. My boyfriend who tries to talk me out of anything that I find related to ships an/or encourages me to paint anything that is related to the sea, could come along, too! We would begin our date in the early morning, meeting for coffee at the Gypsy bean coffee house where we could enjoy getting to know one another over the wonderful aromas of chickory coffee, espresso, and almond pastries. I'd tell Skully all about the yearly Dia de Los Muertos celebration and parades in the area, and his smile would melt me from the get-go.
ReplyDeleteWe would then travel into Ohio City where we would explore the West Side Market, a marvelous shopping experience and historical landmark in Cleveland. After buying the finest meats, cheeses, fruits, olives, and wines, we would head over to the various artsy neighborhoods, and marvel in the many installations therein.
Later in the day, I'd take Mr. Skull to Momocho for some tequila tastings, and munch on some guacamole stuffed with a marvelous center of goat cheese.
Our tongues will certainly loosen by this point, so why not take a romantic stroll along Lake Erie? I'd show Skully the Wagner statue, and explain how controversial it is in the area, hoping to impress him with my knowledge of musical history.
We'd surely wind up sitting on the rocks down by the pier, maybe make out while watching the gulls fight for the most up-to-date trashy delights. We might also explore how deep we're getting at this point, and toss that li'l anchor out into the waters for a test-run.
After lifting the anchor from the depths, we would then head back to my place where we would pop open a nice Malbec and exchange past love failures. A few tears might be shed, but music will help us through. We would spend the next couple hours sharing all the bands we like, and Skully would have no choice but to be awe-stricken by my massive vinyl collection.
We'd probably realize we drank too much, and although we'd munched on the goodies we bought earlier at the market, real sustenance would be in order. We may bicker a bit on this, but something tells me Skully would want a really romantic dinner. So we'd head to La Dolce Vita in Little Italy. The food there is divine, and it's Monday, so they have opera!
As we sit slurping on our spaghetti, I notice a beautiful young lady heading our way. I hear the beginnings of the "Habanera" from Bizet's Carmen, jump from my seat, and begin serenading Skully in my most sultry and amazing voice. It's a little shaky, being tipsy as I am, but he is absolutely smitten, and that young Chica turns away before she even had the chance with my Skully-wully!
We would end the night with a deep, passionate kiss, our hearts fluttering in our throats, and struggling with who will be the first to let go from this amazing embrace. I would feel our inner rhythms sync as the beginnings of forever stab our hearts simultaneously, knowing this time, it's the real deal.

Looking at it will remind me of how much he is my rock and how he has been there for me during this surgery and everything else for the past 15 years. We had a masquerade Halloween wedding and it would also stand to remind me of our special day.

ReplyDeleteto the sea,the rocky shores of Maine-
we would sit a while with empty smiles
and reminisce

and things
we miss
like sinking ships
and aimless drifts
and when we had too much to think,
we'd do it all again.

I would take my skull date to the Mutters museum in Philly! Then maybe the melting pot. But don't worry, I won't dip his arrow into the gooey goodness. Then I would take him to bed with me. My other skulls will probably be jealous of his sheer superiority. This is a risk I'm willing to take!

ReplyDeleteWell I would take this on a date to where I met my husband to see a show and hang in my VIP booth at the Junk Yard (concert venue) After the show I would take it to where we had our wedding reception and annually visit, Frankies Tiki Bar in Las Vegas. Since we have weathered many storms and stayed together and are still alive post, cancer, blindness in one eye, deafness in one ear...it's a fitting symbol of our love.
ReplyDeleteThis is an amazing piece, and we are now huge fans of the work and creative genius.
ReplyDeleteI would take this skull to all of significant places that loved happened good or bad. Those hand full of spots on the planet where who I am in my soul happened. The place I was most broken, the place my heart was frozen, thawed, opened, taken, and kept. Such an artful symbolic totem worn to those places would allow it to be a unifying reminder of all that has made me who i am and a vessel of all the energy that will help create who I become. Please let me fill it with my memories. memory32@windstream.net
ReplyDeleteWe would go out to my favorite cemetery and share a box of wine. Nothing but the best for my special skull.

Thank you for the contest!
I would take "'Til Death Do Us Part" to the quaint little Cajun restaurant where I met the love of my life. We would drink Rum Runners and eat crawfish and beignets. Since my "love" only used me to marry her so she could play with my heart at will then throw it away like it was a piece of trash, then leave me without a word, I no longer have a heart. I need this one to fill the void.
ReplyDeleteWe would go back to nature, for a walk in a rainforest on a sunny afternoon, listen to its surprising sounds and enjoy the colours. At midnight I would leave you against a massive trunk and go my way down the river.
ReplyDelete(hey that's fictional, right, we would never separate for real!)
celine_barbieri@yahoo.fr
I would take this skull to the secret lair my brothers an I built out of fallen trees and branches in the forest behind our mother's home. It looks like a giant tent. Inside we would enjoy a picnic on a classic plaid blanket, sitting by the hand- made fire pit and enjoying the sounds of the forest as the moon's light fell in rays through the small spaces between the branches of our shelter.
ReplyDeleteI would take this beautiful heart to a place of new beginnings....our new house!! My husband's Valentine's Day surprise is news that we will be moving into our new home!! Finally he will have a closet!! I'm a bit of a clothes horse and have stuffed the current closet to capacity. Well.. beyond capacity. So he's been reduced to having his clothing kept in various baskets.. I now vow to respect his closet space and not allow my clothing to trespass into his territory... :)
ReplyDeleteOur children are super excited about having their own rooms!! We have 3 children and 1 adult as I like to say... My oldest daughter is 20.. My youngest daughter is 3. My son is 12 and I have another daughter who is 9..I realize now time flies it seems like yesterday my oldest was just 3...I vow to appreciate the moments I have now.. Good and bad.. I've recently realized that as you look back on your youth even the lowest points in life have meaning and an unexpected beauty..
So for me the perfect place to take this heart is HOME... To be a part of my family,my future, my life and all that we make of it...
I have the most perfect spot picked out... On my husband's side of the closet!! :P

I would take this Heart Skull to a romantic dinner with Lobster & Champagne, then we would go to a movie theater & sit in the back row so we can have some PDA in the dark... then off to a dark, little bar for a sexy night cap... maybe a little slow dancing -- then home to be alone :-)
ReplyDelete(I posted this comment days ago, but I just now saw I forgot to leave my email address)

I would to this skull to my favorite fish house on the Grand River.
ReplyDeleteangeliasart@sbcglobal.net
My husband and I would take this beautiful piece of art to the very spot we exchanged our vows on our first anniversary. We chose to exchange our vows with just him and I; the celebrant the only other human around. We wanted to be surrounded by nature, focused only on each other and our love for each other. We unfortunately did not get to take any pictures on the day as we wanted to be married on the beach, even though Hurricane Sandy was in full effect. This beach has always been a meaningful spot for us. We plan to go back every year on the day, Til Death Do Us Part And Beyond.

ReplyDeletei would take this skull on a date to an underground fetish club.
ReplyDeleteeightohtwo@gmail.com
I would use it in every glamour portrait - especially with cleavage (tastefully so) interplay. Draped around a neck, bicep or chest. I think it would work fine in colour or B&W. It would be more than a prop, more of a touchstone or signature of the momento mori that is every while-I-am-young photo I have ever taken.
ReplyDeleteI wish to make it clear that photography students are NOT going to be involved as models.
Congrats on finding the technology to meet your hyper-detailed vision!
dw.machen@gmail.com
I think a picnic in the cemetery would be fun!
ReplyDeleteWe would do the ghost tour of Old Town. The oldest part of Albuquerque and just hang out.
ReplyDeleteI would take this for a ride around Tampa Bay because of the pirate history and celebrations. I would photograph it in front of the pirate ship, the pirates grotto, Old Tampa Bay, and Jules Verne/Ballast Point Park, documenting the pieces travels - uniquely photographed, of course. :) Most importantly, my last stop would be at my fathers house. A seafaring man who taught me the constellations in case I ever had to navigate by the stars. He also taught me that if I take from the ocean then I must give back. Since the piece invokes a bit of pirate-skullery, but also in the shape of a heart, it only seemed fitting. Dad played pirates with all of his buddies in the USCG. Hence, these were my thoughts, instantly. Good Luck to all.
ReplyDeletewould set up a Blind date with this skull & my Girlfriend. She likes skull's & the skull would find her more interesting than Me.
ReplyDeletewordysworld@hotmail.com
I would enjoy a scenic drive to a cabin in the woods...
ReplyDeleteI would take this skull on a date of walking around Minnehaha Falls, which is a gorgeous park any time of year.

I've been dealing with some depression issues since having my daughter a year and a half ago. I've stepped up and made behavioral changes for myself instead of relying on medication to do if for me. Now chemical free and utilizing good behaviors on a daily basis to make my life better, I think I owe my husband a night out to paint the town red. And what a better way to do so than with this lovely bauble? He's stood by me as amazing support through all of this. TIL DEATH DO US PART!
