Gold Leaf on Painted Wood (8 in x 8 in). It's hard to show what this really looks like since it is so reflective, so here it is with lighting from a different angle...
I've been lurking and since subscribed via bloglines. This is an amazing project and I just wanted to let you know how much I love reading/watching this blog.
this one looks great! i really like what you're doing. since everyone is wearing skulls everywhere (e.g. pink baby-shirts with glitter skulls) the skull theme became a little annoying for many people. but not for me. i liked it long before this skull fashion thing and i will like it after it's gone. so please keep on skulling!
Thanks all! Since folks asked about the process here it is: I freehand drew the image on paper and then transfered the basic outline with carbon paper onto the wood that I had already painted red (a specific color made for underpainting gold leaf). Then I brushed glue made for gold leaf onto the areas that I wanted it and let it dry. Finally I placed the leaf onto the glue and burnished it down, removing the excess as I went. I used an eraser to pull away leaf that was stuck down where I didn't want it and I went back and added leaf where it was needed.
