Khokhloma Skulls

Ruslan Karablin of SSUR Inc. told us: “Inspired by Russian folk art known as khokhloma-Usually done as decorative painting on wooden objects such as spoons, plates and other home items.”

Comrade C says:

This is an amazing piece of work. It has given me a new appreciation for this folk style. The stark contrast of the muted colors on the rich black make this piece come alive as if it were glowing with energy. Thank you for submitting this work for us to share.

  3. A Russian inspired skull that seems to glow? Is this from Kiev? You missed the anniversary by a week.

My favorite folk art are the ones you see at truck stops in the south that use taxidermy animals in human situations. Maybe make a skull out of southern lizards and mount it on a badly finished piece of wood.
