[CONTEST] Win a Baby Bones Clothing $100 Gift Voucher

This contest has ended.  Thanks to everyone who entered for the great comments.

In my honest opinion, there's not enough kick ass clothing out there for kid's these days. I mean, don't get me wrong, there are a lot more skulls going to elementary schools these days than in the past (my high school actually put a ban on skull tee shirts in the early 90's).  These days it's nothing to see boys and girls alike rockin' some skull wear, and this is where 'Baby Bones Clothing' comes stomping into the kick ass picture.  They want to make your kid one of the coolest in their class with an assortment of their clothing via a most generous $100 gift voucher.  Keep reading for entry info AND a discount for just Skull-A-Day readers.

"After a conversation with other alternative mothers about the lack of alternative inspired fashion available in Australia - for a reasonable price – creative mind, Jess, put together a handful of singlets and t-shirts, uploaded photos onto Facebook and thus, Baby Bones Clothing was born."

"With just 5 items available for sale, the orders started rolling in. Baby Bones Clothing was overwhelmed with orders and interest, and it was increasingly evident that this was going to grow far beyond what was originally imagined."

"Mandy joined Jess when she realized the potential that Baby Bones Clothing had. With her expertise in sewing, she was able to add a whole other dimension to the range that Baby Bones Clothing offered."

"Since the birth of Baby Bones Clothing, amazing things have come to manifest. We are growing and expanding. Our gear is in demand. Our minds are constantly filled with exciting and new ideas for our range. We are living and breathing childrens fashion! Join us in sharing Baby Bones Clothing with the world!"

PRIZE INFO: One (1) $100 gift voucher to be used for some kick ass clothing at the 'Baby Bones Clothing' web store.

I think exposing children to skull art in utero is an appropriate age.

It's NEVER too early (or too late, for that matter) to learn about bones :)
My daughter especially likes it when I talk to her about forensic osteology and she's onlt 7- she's been exposed all her life!

My child is 4 months old and has a Day of the Dead themed nursery! He has skull decals on his wall, a skull nightlight and a skull piggy bank, to name a few things! It is never too early!

I love skulls & day of the dead. It's been a part of me for as long as I can remember. My son was introduced to it from day one. His first Halloween we dressed him as a skeleton. He loves it, now he's 3 and every time he wears something with skulls he says "mommy I'm a skeleton!" With that being said I believe it's never too early or too late!

Since they were gestating babies, my children have known bones. My 10 mo. old grandson is also intimately aware of skeletons. A part of life: everyone has one!

We have been exposing my nieces and nephews since before birth, actually my smallest niece, her baby shower theme was skulls! It was great, everyone loved it.

I would love to enter this contest as a grandma to-be. The father to-be is a tattoo artist so I think they would be thrilled to get skull babyshirts and I'm sure our grandson will be brought up with skulls from day one ;). And we won't have a problem with it at all :p.
Warm regards Susan (365dagencreatief(at)gmail(dot)com).

I started introducing my now 9-month-old nephew to skull art, toys, and clothing well before he was born. He has books with skulls, a stuffed-animal animal skeleton, skull socks, and other skull clothing. Suffice it to say, he loves skulls (just like his Aunt :) ), and he is sooooo adorable, that he would look great in all sorts of Baby Bones clothing!

I believe children should be exposed to skulls at conception. Although my daughter went to Slipknot as a 6 month fetus, today she is a pink and skull loving awesome kid!!

As soon as they are born,as they are used to skulls, from in utero around here !!

You are never to young (or old) for skulls, after all they are inside you! We bought skull infant wear/accessories for our son as soon as we discovered we were expecting! *Alianalways@aol.com

I don't think it's ever too early :] There's nothing wrong with skulls and bones, nothing that merits avoiding them until a certain age.

It is never to early to learn that there's a skull living behind your face.

Born with a skull, die with one, wearing one on the outside is just no biggie..

I think any age is great. My 7 week old baby boy would look great with a skull onesie or t-shirt!

velocibadgergirl said...

I think skull apparel is okay from birth! My son's first item was an awesome skull onesie he wore from 0 - 3 months. I guess my second kid as already worn his first skull gear before birth, as I dressed as a pregnant skeleton for Halloween this year!

Whenever a parent decides to, its a personal choice and everyone is entitled to their opinions and differences. My girls have always been exposed to it. I am a big lover of supernatural things. They have kid friendly monster stories, monster high dolls and items. They've always have at least one item of 'rocker' type clothing. If I ever have a little boy, his room will probably be pirate themed so he will have skulls everywhere. It seems to be a growing trend and very accepted these days, which is awesome but it wouldn't change my choices. sillycarsrock@hotmail.com

My nephew has been exposed to skull art all his life. And as his aunt I must admit that I think I'm the one to blame to his metal roaring while singing as well... :)

Both my kids have seen / appreciated skulls and skull art since birth! In fact, I had a baby carrier that was covered in calavaras!

I believe you should try not to impose your tastes on kids. I dressed my daughter in skulls and zombie was one of her first words. Now that she is old enough to develop her own style, she wants nothing to do with anything spooky. I think it is because she was over-exposed and wants to be different from me. Hopefully she will come around. jiggalysquish@gmail.com

Who can resist a newborn in a skull & crossbones? Funnily I think I've seen more tiny onesies with skulls than kids clothes - must be looking in the wrong place, your shop is obviously where its at. sarahluddy@gmail.com

I think it's appropriate to introduce it at any age, plus it's cool and unique fashion and not everyone knows about fashion and not everyone has the same fashion sense. So if someone doesn't like it on my baby it's ok, since I most probably won't like everything that person wears either!

I think if they are around skulls it becomes something they enjoy and are comfortable with. I love the previous comment of the day of the dead themed nursery. I have always enjoyed the hard and soft combined. Skulls allow that in so many different ways.

You'd be silly not to love the skull...it's where your brain lives. I am sorry I didn't see that maternity shirt 9 months ago! but now there's a 9-month old to skull up for Christmas. Mini-Skellington.

Everyone is born with a skull. Skull art is appropriate when that skull is given to the child.

I decided approximately 13 years ago, while pregnant with my first daughter, that I would teach her right from wrong/good from bad by example; by her surroundings. Being raised in a home decked with art, images of global variances in culture, and religious ambiguity has left my daughters unscathed by innane taboos and controversy. Skulls of all species, anatomy in general really, are not just a part of life- they are life it's self. If one does not favor these as art or fashion, that is personal taste. However, they are not a negative thing in any way and those who believe otherwise do so because they were conditioned to think that way. Personally, I love skulls and incorporate them into my wardrobe, home decor, tattoos, etc. I keep the truly bad things (bigotry, exploitation, and cruelty) out of my home. I let life, nature, and tolerance in. And skulls. Lots and lots of skulls:),

Here's my answer: Teach them NOW!

Every family is different, and every household is unique. Therefore, we are required as parents to embrace the world around us to the fullest. Every single decent family already knows how to raise their children in a positive and creative environment. It's about our parenting styles.

So, I have a 2 year old and a 7 year old who both know what skulls and skeletons are, and they are fantastic kids. It's weird right now, because they think of skulls as a seasonal novelty during Halloween, but I'm happy because they haven't been exposed to skulls in association with fear, death and other scary things.

It's never too late, it's never too early. It's just about the way you expose it to them. It's about parenting style, and I believe it to be a beautiful subject, aesthetically.

Talk to your kids, be honest with them, and give them the gift of SKULL-A-DAY!!!

They will end up loving you for it, and we should hope it may shift the paradigm away from fear and death.

Celebrate with skulls!

I work as an x-ray tech and have a fondness for skulls/skeletons.

Unknown said...

no set age. but if your kid hasn't been exposed all along it might depend on your kid. i didn't make a point to expose my 3-year-old to skulls and he's a bit cautious of 'scary' things so i was surprised when he found Noah's Skulls book on the bookshelf and loved it. he loves to identify what the skulls are made of!

Unknown said...

The earlier, the better. My kids have been exposed to cutie skullies since they were babies and had skully stuffed dolls as infants. They love skulls, calacas, Mr. bones, Mrs. Skully! They almost love them as much as I do. It's awesome sharing my childhood tradition of Dia De Los Muertos with my kids, they have a deep respect for their history. Skulls and skeletons are one of the symbols of this tradtion.
