I know, I know...you're probably saying, "Hey, Tatman, all of the skulls you post are skinless. Duh!". And you would be totally right, but when I saw these paintings from Benjamin Girard it was the first title that came to mind.
Skulls are generally lifeless pieces, but the way Benjamin puts so much life into rest of his work I feel like these are living people who are just missing the skin on their skulls. There's a recurring theme on Benjamin's site of either skinless skull people or "invisible" people. They're all excellent works and I'm glad that we got to share these with all of the flesh wearers. If I had a skinless skull, I wouldn't have to worry about tanning or burning too dark. Sun bleaches bone.
ReplyDeleteYou are right. My first thought as I was cllicking on teh title of this post was "Duh, of course it's skinless" After reading the comment and seeing the pictures though, I have to agree.

Those paintings are amazing! Skinless skulls: PRO - no more unsightly wrinkles and age spots; CON - noticeable fissures and cracks. ;)
