Skull-A-Day: What's Next
Believe it or not the second year of the Skull-A-Day project has nearly ended! While I never planned to have this be more than a one-year project, I just couldn't abandon the awesome community that had sprung up around it. And for the past year you all have amazed me with the incredible range of ways the skull can be represented. It's truly been a treat to get emails from people young and old from across the globe who have been inspired by this project. Amazingly the submissions haven't slowed down and so I once again feel compelled to commit myself to keeping this site going for another year, as long as you the fans want to keep it going. Of course I can't ever do the same thing twice, so I'm making a big change for Skull-A-Day 3.0 that I'm very excited to tell you about...
I am bringing on two new guest editors! You'll probably recognize their names if you've been visiting here for any length of time: Justin AKA Tatman & the mysterious Citizen Agent!
One other item to note for S-A-D 3.0...
There's a brand new submission address! Please make sure you've made a note of it for when you're ready to submit your own work.
Thanks again for all of you kind support for this project. I hope you'll continue to read, be inspired, and submit your work in the coming year!
I am bringing on two new guest editors! You'll probably recognize their names if you've been visiting here for any length of time: Justin AKA Tatman & the mysterious Citizen Agent!
Tatman has been posting comments and submitting skulls since nearly the beginning of the project. He's been a fantastic booster of the project and his endlessly positive attitude makes him a perfect fit with the ongoing goal of the site to encourage creativity in any form it may take. Read Justin's bio HERE.Throughout year 3 they will be posting the submissions you send in as well as coordinating monthly creative contests! I hope you will give them a warm welcome.
Citizen Agent has also been commenting since nearly the beginning, and though he has remained anonymous to even me, he has still managed to become a trusted friend of the project. Indeed, C was even given permission to create Skull #366 (the only officially numbered skull not made by myself) to commemorate the end of the proect and the fact that the original project happened during a leap year. Read Citizen Agent's bio HERE.

Rocks & Skulls
A couple of recent submissions that combine rock skull simulacra and creative work...
Suzanne Barnes found this rock and made her own lovely illustrated version of it...
and Justin AKA Tatman says, "My family was out enjoying the great weather today, and I came across this rock in our garden. I decided to enhance it a little with my engraver. I have dubbed him "Roc". Not only do I see the skulls I helped draw, but many more partial ones."...

[Bonus] Rorschach Skull Tattoo!
Danny Cutup of Sag Harbor, New York just got this awesome tattoo of my Rorschach Skull design! It was done by Rob White at Cliff's Tattoos in Selden, NY...
He's joined the elite ranks of fellow Skull-A-Day tattooed folks: GlobGlob (who used the Skullphabet for a tattoo), Katrina (who had a tattoo designed for her Skull-A-Day fans) and of course myself. Any other Skull-A-Day tattoos out there I don't know about? Send me a picture and I'll send you a specially signed bookplate for your copy of my book (assuming you've bought it!). And hey, if you don't want to make as serious a commitment as Danny you can always just buy a Rorschach Skull T-shirt!

Skull Fairy
Kim Agatha Quinola from the Philippines says, "I may be all-pink on the outside, but my taste for art, literature and music is of macabre and phantasmagoric things. A goth classmate of mine found out that I have a sticker of Grim from The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy on my pink notepad. She soon introduced me a to skull-a-day.com. I write weird fairytales, and Boney is a grief fairy whose job is to make fairytale characters weep to advance the plot. She grants wishes to those who pine enough to satisfy her whimsy. She's also an apprentice of Death."...

Sunday Simulacra - Round 33
W Leach found this sneaky guy hiding on a coat...
Jennifer says, "My boyfriend's sister baked cookies this past weekend for a little get together we had and one came out with chocolate chips aligned in a skull fashion. Of course being the skull consultant I insisted on a photograph of this skull. Kelly, my boyfriend's sister and baker, insisted on adding the adjacent pretzles for crossbones. Pretty cool, considering she thought it was humorous with texture and chip placement, but above all I think that I may be starting to be welcomed into the fabulous brady bunch family they are. (Boyfriend's family= blonde, blue eyes, happy family games; Me=skull tattoos, peircings, metal)"...
and Julie Paintain discovered this skull-y something (cicada shell?) on her plant...

[BONUS] Skull Stencil in Use

Lego Portrait Skull
Jennie Kadrioski says, "I was sitting on the floor with my son and his Legos one day, and, bored with making trucks and tiny houses, found inspiration in both Allan Bedford's Unofficial LEGO Builder's Guide (which contains a fine chapter on mosaic) and Skull-a-Day. My son was so enamored with it, he wouldn't allow it be dismantled for days!"

Tatman's Skullapalooza
Longtime Skull-A-Day fan Justin AKA Tatman has gone on a skull making frenzy recently and produced a bunch of great pieces!
This one was inspired by Alex's junk drawer skull...
The first mustard skull of the project...
A "zip screw" skull. Justin says, "It is made of 354 total 1/4" hex head x 3/8" screws used for attaching downspouts and elbows to gutter. The overall size is about 6" wide by 71/2" high. My forearm was little tired after screwing all of those in(that didn't sound right)."...
A revisit of my Cork Skull...
A block skull, about which he says, "My 3 year old knew it was a skull. I was so proud!"...
And finally Justin recently mailed me this fantastic gift, a custom carved rock...
