Old & School Project Skull

Chad Hoffman from Massachusetts sent us a pair of submissions.

Chad said: “This first skull was done by my 9 year old. A school art project he picked. I think its pretty cool so I wanted to share it.”


He went on to say: “This second one's story is, I had this real ‘nice’ winter car... so I decided to hit up the rust with neon green and a stencil from you at Skull-A-Day.”

Saint Mary's School Skulls

Mrs. Meikle who teaches at Saint Mary’s School in Algoma Wisconsin wrote: “This is a ‘skull of skulls’ that I made with my art students. First I drew about 20 different versions in b&w and made copies of them. My students then picked the one they wanted to color and colored away. Some of them were inspired to draw their own ‘blanks’ to decorate. All of the students had 45 minutes to complete their skulls. We mounted them into the shape of a skull for a Dias de Los Muertos party that was to be held in the church’s basement.”

September 2009 CONTEST: “Back to Skull”

Now it's time to do some homework, and, yes, you will get extra credit for completing this project

It's September already? Where did the Summer go? As with the traditional change in seasons it's time to head back to school ... or in this case “Back to Skull.” This month we are going to focus on items that you would normally bring to school, that you have personalized in your own skully way. Here is what we ask: think about something you make use of everyday and find the skull just waiting to be called on. These are a few examples from Professor Skullmaster's original 365.25 to get you started.


Criteria for submission: Submissions must be an original design by you, and you may use any object found in a school to create your skull. You have a month to submit your design, be creative: there are a lot of items you find in a school that you may not think of immediately.

Deadline: September 30, 2009

SKULL-A-DAY 3.0 MONTHLY CONTESTS
This is another exciting monthly contest Skull-A-Day is doing throughout year 3.0. We, The Skullmaster, Tatman, and myself, Citizen Agent, realize that it is you, the fans of the project, who continue to keep this site going, and over and over again you have shown us the amazing talent that is inside all of you. Our monthly contests are one more way in which everyone can get involved. We want to inspire you with a topic each month and see what you come up with in response to it.

The Details: The usual submission rules apply here, all work must be original and must fit the criteria for the current monthly contest. All contests will begin when announced, around the 1st of the month, and run through the end of the month. All entries must be e-mailed to the submissions address within 24 hours of the close of the contest to be considered for the random drawing. Be sure to include the name of the contest in the subject line of your e-mail.

About the Prize: 12 unique hand-made prizes will be awarded throughout the 3.0 Skull-A-Day year. Each month one prize will be awarded one week after the end of the contest to a random participant, at which time all submitted work will be exhibited on Skull-A-Day.

School On A Sunday

Pausing from the usual Simulacra Sunday to bring you two great skull themed school projects that were inspired by Skull-A-Day:

Stephany Gardiner head of art at the JACK Art club in Kingston upon Thames, (London) England used my papercraft pattern and the work of Damien Hirst for a lesson with 6-11 year olds. She says, "It was one of the most successful lessons we have ever done"!





And Heather Brosman, an art teacher and artist in Rochester, NY, says, "I was so inspired by your work that I did a quick skull project with my 7th grade advisement group for Halloween. McQuaid Jesuit is an all boy school, so I knew it would be a hit!" See more on the process HERE...
