Bunny Skulls Egg

In early March, Job Fitz Gerald said "They are have a egg decorating contest at work. Going to show them a proper egg." For that contest, he drew this bunny skull covered egg.

I love seeing how people decorate eggs for Easter. This one is very colorful, yet sinister. I love that the skulls aren't regular ones, but bunny skulls. I hope Job won for this great creation!

Sugar Skull Bunny

Dawn Donut told us: "I created some Easter coloring pages. That is if you like your Easter
sprinkled with sugar skulls."  There are more styles available to color HERE.

Hop-Along C says:

It certainly does not feel like spring has arrived in many parts of the country, but hopefully a weekend full of brightly colored eggs and sugar skull bunnies can make for brighter days ahead.  Thank you for sharing your work with us.

Wabbi-igami Skull

Artist Jaisen Yates who lives and works in Newcastle Upon Tyne in the UK sent us a piece of his work.  He explained: "My Wabbi-igami sculpture is made from molded resin with a real skull set into the resin after drying using car body filler, which was then shaped and spray painted."

Donnie C says:

Frank is that you?  I am recognizing recently that I am a fan of assemblage art.  It truly is an incredible feat you accomplished with this piece, it has the look of fired porcelain, but you have mastered that element of disguise. It also reminds me a little bit of an award statue, congratulationg on winning a "Wabbi" for best artistic use of car body filler.  Thank you for sharing this piece with us.

A Bunny & A Mouse Skull

A pair of skulls inspired during the Easter Holiday.

Graphic Designer Tricia in California sent us this: “Attached is a holiday-themed, vector-based illustration that I created for my blog - Habitual Hands. I try to create & post one hand image per day. I have titled the illustration ‘Easter Bunny Finger Puppet Show’. I took multiple anatomical liberties with the bunny skull because I wanted the illustration to have a somewhat playful undertone.”

Kelly Boyett sent us an Easter Play-doh Minnie Skull

Frank C says:

It has been 37 days... 6 hours... 42 minutes... 12 seconds since I woke up on Easter morning. I truly enjoy these two pieces. The bunny puppet makes me laugh, it sort of reminds me of a more human side of the Grim Reaper perhaps a little peek into their personal life when they are not at work and spending time at home entertaining their kid. The mouse skull just works so well there. The light colored material on the stark black table, just perfect. Thank you both for sharing your work with us.

The Skull Quilt Project: Rabbits Skull

A Rabbit A Day creator, Sarah from Ilfracombe, North Devon, England sent us this rabbit skull for our quilt project. Sarah made a rabbit template. She used the the template to cut rabbits out of fusible webbing backed fabric. She arranged the rabbits and ironed them into place on an Alexander Henry skull and lace print cotton fabric. After, she stitched around each rabbit, overlapping her stitch lines, so the rabbit shapes were maintained. This is a nice way to do applique. I love the repetition of the rabbit shape and how it's arranged to form a skull. This is another great example of a creative way to make a skull quilt square.

We've been getting a lot of blocks for our Skull-A-Day and Becky's Fund Skull Quilt Project. We have enough to make about 2 art quilts, but we definitely want more blocks. The more blocks, the more quilts we can make and auction off. The proceeds from the auctions will go to Becky's Fund, which is an organization that helps victims of domestic violence. The quilt blocks need to be 12"x12" in total size. This includes 1" around all sides of seam and ironing allowance. This means you have about 10"x10" of art space. Since these are art quilts, feel free to use any medium you wish that will adhere to a 12"x12" cotton square. Need inspiration, check our other submissions.

If you would like to participate in this project, send your finished skull quilt squares to:

Skull-A-Day
PO Box 73236
Richmond, VA 23235

On a note sent with the piece, please include:
Your name
Your city, state and/or country
Your email...so I can tell you when yours arrives.

If you have any questions about the project, feel free to email me at abby@skulladay.com

The deadline for us to receive the skull blocks is Saturday, May 28, 2011. This is so we can sew the quilts in time Skull Appreciation Day. The quilts will be auctioned off after the event. Some might be auctioned at the event...more on that when I have more details for you.
