Joanne's Jumbo Skull Saturday

Joanne Dhody of Erdenheim, PA is skullin' up our Saturday with an assortment of wonderful skulls. Some of which share the same design, but are all different mediums. (all captions provided by Joanne)

This skull was created using a yummy parantha made by my sister-in-law. A parantha is an Indian flat bread, they are one of my family’s favorite dinners.
This grease skull was a result of blotting the skull parantha on a paper towel (I never said it was health food!)
This is a double skull piece! I used pinking shears to cut up remnants of skull fabric, leftover from the hobo bags I make (available in my Etsy store)
This skull was made from sand from the Jersey Shore. We go “down the shore” every summer.
After cooking some pasta I noticed steam on the glass door, I just had to make a skull in it!
I burnt a piece of toast and instead of throwing it away I made a skull out of it!!

Yeah TOAST!  I love how you let everyday life inspire you to create, Joanne.  Even the burnt toast gets a new life here on our site, never to grow moldy.  Thanks for sharing all of these!

Steam Skull

Qi, submitted this image to us. " "Poison" is an illustration I did for a website of koans.  The skull is in the steam."

I'm suddenly craving some Asian food. If only a place here was open this early, I would get some now. I love how the steam from the hot tea creates the skull and there is steam from the rice. It's very cartoon like, which goes nicely with the context of the drawing.

To be entered in today's drawing to win a button just leave a comment below stating: What kind of food might you find a skull in?

Steampunk Skull (Miniature)

Michelle Murray of Steelhip Designs in Perth, Australia said: “I was told by someone over at the brass goggles blog/forum you might be interested in pics of my little creations. Steampunk has become such a broad genre that quite a bit of "pirate" culture is slipping in. In fact these guys were inspired by a member in the forum who signs off ‘Sky Pirate’.”

Zeppelin C says:

I have never heard of a “Sky Pirate”, but I am quite familiar with “Space Pirates” . These are all wonderful pieces that you have created. I am in awe that they are in the 1" realm and you were still able to so completely embellish them. My favorite is the little bumps you put on their heads to make it look like they are wearing micro top hats in true Steampunk fashion. Thank you for submitting these piece, and I look forward to seeing more of what you do relating to our past’s future.

228. Steam Skull

Steam Drawing, Korean Restaurant, NYC. I looked up from my lunch to discover an optimal work surface directly in front of me.
