Snake Skin Skull

Most commonly skulls are featured without their skin, but Susan Scofield has reverted this paper mache skull to include a skin of a different animal.

The only description I can come up with is "simply wicked". I can just imagine this as the skull of some demon from another realm or possibly a piece of Pantera artwork. Stretching this skin over the skull is likewise stretching my imagination, and for that I thank you, Susan.

342. (Band of The) Hand Skull

Arranged Hands. Thanks to my friend Mady (shown) who suggested I come make a skull with her tribal dance troupe Caravan Mystique, who were in a local park doing a photo shoot today. And thanks to the hands of Mady, Ivy, Marty, and Phil!

BONUS! CONTEST!: Post a picture of you and your friends making this skull (or a variation on it) with your own hands to Flickr (with the tags "skulladay" and "handskull") and send me an e-mail with the link to the image. The first 10 folks to do so will get 5 "I heart skulls" mini-bumper stickers, which are currently not for sale anywhere!

309. Skullcut

Shaved Head. A big thanks to my friend Cupid who kindly volunteered to let me shave his head in the name of art (at the barbershop where he works no less!). It went remarkably well considering it was a one shot deal. Sadly this was only a temporary haircut. Maybe this'll encourage others to get a skullcut though and it'll start a trend!

242. Skull Bruise

Makeup on Skin. A big thanks to my Nathan for being my model. This one is inspired by the bruises I've gotten in the karate class he teaches.

101. Tattoo Skull, Self-Inflicted

Tattoo Ink in Skin. I've got plenty of tattoos (several of which feature skulls), but I've never tattooed anyone else before and certainly not myself. The whole thing took maybe 15 minutes to do, was relatively painless, and I actually quite enjoyed the experience! Yes this is real, yes this is permanent, yes I used sterile equipment, yes I took the photo with my left hand (not easy). So who wants the next Skull-A-Day tattoo?

P.S. My sister thinks Skull-A-Day should be featured on the Ellen show. She says if we all tell her via the Ellen site it might have a chance. How about it, want to give it a go? The more folks that suggest it the better the chances. Here's the LINK.

75. Expanded T-Skull

T-shirt cut with Xacto. Attempt #3, I think if I did about a dozen more I could perfect this technique, but I really need to get some actual work done today!

UPDATE: Per request here's a hi-res JPEG (option-click or right-click to download) of the pattern as it ended up. I recommend experimenting on paper and modifying as you see fit.

44. "In The new" Crossover Skull

Today's post is a special Crossover with the blog In The New. Details below.

Ink on the Hand of Jen from In The New. Jen is doing a one-year daily project blog as well, in her case it's about doing something new every day for the year leading up to her 30th birthday. Since I was in her town we decided to meet up for lunch and do a crossover post (you know like when DC characters show up Marvel comics and vice-versa?). Her new thing was to help make a skull (link to her post) and I agreed to do something new, in this case using another person to create a skull. Thanks to Jen for being a patient model.

And special thanks to Brad for suggesting and demonstrating the hand skull to me.
