"2 B or not 2 B" Skull
"2 B or not @ B". That is the question and the title of today's skull painting from Lori Zébière. This magnificent beauty measure 40" x 30" and has enough life in it to make you forget about the fact that the skull is dead. It's eternal rest will be surely pleasant with the scenery and nature that Lori has given to it, hence the smile on it's face. Thanks for brightening our day as well, Lori!

Honey Skull
Barry Thomson created this Honey Skull using Photoshop. You can see some up close and progress photos on his blog. Prints are available here.
I love seeing amazing digital work that is highly detailed. The shading really helps define the honeycomb and skull shape. The details of the bees makes the really appear to live on this unusual hive. I love the taste of honey. One of my favorite ways to enjoy honey is when it's still on the honey comb. I fondly remember go to the state fair and buying honey combs thick with delicious fresh honey. The glistening honey of this skull makes me want another right now!

"...not to Bee" Skull
This past winter Skull-A-Day colleague and avid beekeeper Phil Cheney made the most of an unfortunate encounter when he discovered that some of his bees had frozen to death.
Even though your hive experienced a loss, Phil, you made it a gain for us with the first ever skull made of bees. Their honey making days may be over, but their spirits will live eternal in the sweetness you have provided. Thanks for that, Phil!

Skull with Bees
Jon MDC, UK, submitted this piece. Limited edition prints are available on his blog.
I love the elegant beauty of this piece. The theme of death is relevant in both the skull and the bees. As we all know by now, the bees that we rely on for polination of our foods and flowers, have been dying. This has been linked to pesticides. This is a sad fate. The same pesticides that can kill the fragile bees, can harm us. Life is fragile. Though some may parish, as the above phrase states, "You can't kill us all". I'm hoping that natural selection perseveres and the population of resistant bees increases. However, I'm not looking forward to our yearly invasion of ground bees, in our ivy.
