Sunday Simulacra - Veriosn 7.19

Today's sneaky skulls were only visible for short times so kudos to the captors for being on point with a camera in hand....

The first was a frosty windshield that was awaiting Ryan Kinney one wintry morning, and the second is the condensation on an ice bucket caught by the skull capturing combination of James and Annemarie Gasser. Both are reminders of how fleeting these hidden skulls can be, as well as your own. Appreciate it before it fades away. Thanks for sharing your finds, Ryan and The Gassers!

Snow and Ice Skulls

Design Student Chessie Rosier from the UK showed off some of the skulls that she likes to create.

Sunday Simulacra - Version 4.35

Today's skulls were found in the snow.

Kristin "Artzy Diva" from Millbury MA sent us this snowy skull. "My husband and son found this on our front walk when they went out this morning. I love it when Mother Nature leaves a skull gift!"

Mike Webber from London, Ontario, Canada sent us this snowy skull. " This is a photo of the hood of my car early on Monday, January 3rd. I found this skull on my car after a light dusting of snow. I'm not sure how the pattern occurred, but I thought it was pretty cool. Nothing bad happened during the day, so we can rule out the whole "evil omen" thing."

While I was outside taking photos for My Daily Nature Photos, I found this snow skull on a leaf of my Camellia bush. It's not from white snow, like the above two are. It's from the snow melting into an ice/snow mixture.

Sunday Simulacra - Version 4.27

A collection of simulacra that occurred in nature.

Terry from Massachusetts dug this and wrote: “This afternoon I drove by this incredible headstone. It appears to be just a random pattern of lichen. It had rained earlier in the day, which I think darkened the lichen, thereby enhancing the effect. What I find most amusing about it is that the eye of the skull is created by the original carving on the stone, which appears to be a small terrier.”


Believe it... or Not! Cowpiezzzz in Northwest Wisconsin told us: “I saw this guy staring up at me from the ice in my driveway. The only thing is, I’m not sure if it is a skull or if it is a portrait of Jack Palance”


Tina R in White City, Oregon sounded the horn for us: “I walked out on my porch early morning, and this is the water mark stain left from the fog.”


C-munged Freud says:

Sometimes a skull is just a skull. I always love this part of the week seeing all the skulls that we find in our everyday living. I think one could believe that the spirits are at work in Massachusetts. A skull or Jack Palance... Curly’s Gold couldn't help him now. Good thing you went out after the Fog- it looks like it was that kind that kind of fog that movies are made about. Thank you all for taking the time to submit your finds.

Sunday Simulacra - Version 3.48

It's Sunday again and time for another round of Sunday Simulacrum. Here's a cool collection from a few of the skull hunters out there.

Matt Kravetz found this chilly fella hiding in his drink.



Samantha Griff of Kirtland, Ohio tells us, "I saw this festive skull on the front doors of a small church in 2009."



And Slanelle from Paris, France sends us this beautiful find. "I've taken this picture of my friend Elsa in Germany (in Münster, to be exact). We had a snow ball fight, and I was amazed to see that the snow ball left a skull on her coat !! I had to stop the snow fight to take the picture, because I love skulladay.com, and thought you might enjoy it. I see a skull with a hat :D"



Once again you skull hunters have come through with some great finds. Maybe now we need some warmer looking skulls to offset these frigid looking craniums. If you find them then be sure to submit them.

215. (Break The) Ice Skull

Arranged Found Ice (approx. 8in. x 8in). Yesterday was the first day this winter that temperatures didn't reach above freezing so there are patches of ice here and there. I found these pieces on top of a frozen sewer drain about a block from my house this morning. And yes, amazingly the center piece already had that rather skull-like appearance!
