FACE OFF Artist Spotlight: Dan Springer

Dan Springer is one of 10 main artists that will be featured at the Skull Appreciation Day 2013's Face Off show. Dan is based out of Toronto, Canada. Dan is a regular contributor on Skull-A-Day. In addition to physical work, he has great digital work, like skull filled calendars, that we love sharing with our fans. I love his cartoon infused quirky style. Super talented artist Dan Springer has kindly offered to give away a set of his extremely limited edition Roving Eye glasses to a Skull-A-Day reader!



This set of four high quality drinking glasses features a cyclops version of Dracula, Frankenstein, a Devil, and of course a Skull. The eyeballs are printed on the reverse so that no matter where you turn it their eye watches you!

FACE OFF: Skull Appreciation Day 2013 Recap

For this year's Skull Appreciation Day Skull-A-Day partnered with Street Anatomy to create FACE OFF a collection of new skull art at the International Museum of Surgical Science in Chicago, IL.

For those of you who couldn't attend the opening here's a tour...

 In addition to the 10 artists that were invited to the show, we asked the public to participate in a variety of ways, including a DIY skull station using the same template we provided the artists...
 

And mail art that was sent in from around the world and created by local Chicago students was on display in the museum's library...

There was also a cool merch table (on a vintage hospital gurney no less!)...

One of the featured items was a custom made pin based on the show poster created by Anatomical Element...

The evening concluded with the destruction and consumption of a gorgeous custom made chocolate skull from Conjurer's Kitchen...

The best part of the opening, however, was getting to meet our fans in person and having the various members of the Skull-A-Day & Street Anatomy communities together in the same room!

Super 'Skulluxe' Saturday

If you've been reading Skull-A-Day for any length of time then you are sure to have been witness to the the bright and bold world of Dan Springer of Skulluxe fame.  Now Dan's back with so much new stuff that A Super Skull Saturday was in order.

Most of Dan's works are painted on wooden panels, but I see a new trend has caught his eye with the painted bike bells.  I'm sensing a pattern of awesomeness appearing over at Skulluxe.  Perhaps these will also catch the eye of a fellow skull and bike lover over at his site (hint, hint, Paul).

Be sure you check out the rest of Dan's terrific works of more than just skulls.  He's got a unique flair that really pops and brings vibrancy to the mundane woodgrains he uses for a canvas.  Thanks again for the incredible submissions, Dan!
