freakSTATIC made this card for their mother's birthday. They explained, "It went down really well, she used to sing the Birthday Dirge to us when we were small!" I has to look up this "Birthday Dirge" song for the message on the card to make any sense. Now, I'm hooked. You'll have to give it a listen. It's not a normal birthday song, but for us skull loving people, it's appropriate. I need someone to sing this to me on my next birthday.

Birthday Skull
Cameron St.Gelais from Ormond Beach, FL created this Birthday Skull.
We all know that with each passing year, we grow older, and closer to death. However, there is still a lot of living to do before that day comes. Whether that day is next week, or 90 years from now, we don't know. Spend the unknown amount of time in between doing something you enjoy and celebrate your life, as if it was as amazing of a day to celebrate as the anniversary of your birth...your birthday.

Skull Birthday Cake
Craig Jacob's wife Alice had this cake made for Craig's 50th birthday. It was made by Blanca Combas. It contains five of Craig's favorite things; skulls, Starbucks, Macallan Scotch, Fat Boy Harley Davidson, and electrical connectors, which are all edible. The skull was made of chocolate mocha cake. The crate was vanilla cake. The coffee and scotch bottle were made of rice krispies cakes.
The ability to make sculptures using cake and icing has always fascinated me. Of course my favorite part of this particular cake creation is the skull. The chocolate mocha cake with the white fondant icing, is a nice and delicious combination. I hope Craig enjoyed his birthday and delicious looking cake.

[BONUS] Gifts Fit For A Skull
I just had to share a few of the great skull-y art gifts I was given for my birthday this past week...
Artist Rob Tarbell made this incredible piece for me! It's part of his Struggles series of works made from old stuffed animals that have been infused with porcelain slip and fired. Many, like this one, wear a mask made from another stuffed animal's head, but so far this is the only one with a special skull face...

My godsister had an amazing airbrush artist at the beach make this special one-of-a-kind shirt for me in honor or my current project League of Space Pirates!...

And my friend Holden, who is nine, made this terrific custom Lego skull for me!...
