Sunday Simulacra - Version 6.18

Today's Simulacra can be found hiding in the garden.

First up is Carlton K at Spiderbite Studios in Richmond, VA who found this cluster of mushrooms growing in his backyard.

Our next foundling is from  Linda K. Williams in Tucson, AZ who discovered this old stem of snapdragons flowers that produced these cool skull seed pods.

Sunday Simulacra - Version 5.46

Today's skulls are mushrooms.

Bob Aul said "Unfortunately, this Crimini mushroom was harmed, but only in a way that mushrooms are usually harmed in the normal course of food preparation, and in fact the likeness only became apparent to me once the sautéing had already begun.  So understandably I had to grab the camera before I added the wine."

Christopher Deacon said "I was making pizza, and as I was slicing mushrooms, noticed they looked very skull-like. I thought this photo makes the pizza look kind of like a graveyard."

We need help from our skull hunters. If you see a simulacra skull, photograph it and send those pictures in to our submissions address.

Today's simulacra from my personal collection.

The first is from the foundation of one of the houses in my neighborhood.


The next is a muffin pan in a store that sells all types of kitchen accessories.


And last is a fried mushroom from dinner the other night.

For some odd reason, mushrooms seem to be a natural skull material, it must the contrast of light and dark that does it, or maybe it is that some mushrooms can actually kill you that leads us here. Six months ago Xolth from France was featured here with an amazing Mushroom Skull. At the time we asked him to share the effects of time on it, today we share those results with you.

Sunday Simulacra - Version 3.32

This week's round of simulacra all come from looking down. You might think that looking down is nothing special, but it's the way I was looking when I found $20 one day. These three folks were lucky enough to find a skull when they scanned the terra firma beneath their feet.

Joe Hollis of Springfield, Ma, "found this at work, a spot on the floor looked like a toon skull but the left eye of the spot also looks like a skull."



Sherrie walked upon this one. "I found this little mushroom skully as I was hiking on Thanksgiving morning on the Beaver Trail of Pinchot State Park in South Central Pennsylvania. I saw it and immediately saw SKULL!"



And Terri Schlichenmeyer of LaCrosse, WI, "found this skull this morning in the driveway. It's 3 below zero with sun. The combination on a black asphalt pavement left this image."

Crâne de champignons (Mushroom Skull)
