Cherry Skull Pies

Kimberly Gunter from Disputanta, VA made these skull pies to go with her morning coffee. She describes them as "...wickedly delicious!! These were inspired by my affinity for all things anatomical, especially skulls! I used pie crust and cherry pie filling, cut out the shape with a knife, slapped some cherry eyeballs on, added some mushed up cherries for extra yumminess, rolled up some little pieces of dough for teeth and brows, popped them in the oven and watched like a little kid as the skulls oozed and bubbled. They were fabulous!

I love these! I love cherry pie in general, but these are exceptional. I like how the whole cherries have been arranged into the eye sockets. They do look "wickedly delicious". The use of the pie dough to create a the skull features, if very creative. I can see chocolate or cheese being used too, for some other delicious fillings. I might have to try this.

Spinach Pie Skull

Ghengis Jung serves up this story, "When I received this slice of spinach pie, while triangular, it had some remarkably skull-like characteristics. I carefully bit the pie to accentuate it's skull-ishness. After photographing it, I ate it. It was delicious."

Thanks for the skullicious looking pie, Ghengis. All of you food lovers out there can come back for seconds after you submit your own pics.

362. (Mmmm) Skull Pie

Arranged Vegan Pie Topping (uncooked). Thanks to my friend Kendra, owner of Ipanema Cafe, one of the best retaurants in Richmond (that also happens to be mostly vegetarian, though non-vegetarians love it too), for letting me play in the kitchen there. They serve the most delicious fruit pies and she allowed me to arrange the crumble topping on this mixed berry one that will eventually get served to unsuspecting customers!

UPDATE: Here's a post baking picture...

...and the first piece being eaten by Erin and Jeff who were more than happy to volunteer for the job!
