This was a post card sent to Noah's mom, Mim for the Mail Art 365 Project, by Camel O'Rama. They described it as, a "hand cut stencil attached to wallpaper - cut to 4x5" & sent in the mail".
The use of layers and texture helps define the skull works well with a mostly light colored palette. The use of negative space is delicate and creative in the depiction of a skull. Since the scale of this is so small, the time it took to cut the stencil must have been immense. Overall, it's a beautiful piece that would be a treat for anyone to receive in the mail.

[BONUS] Skull Postcard Swap
A few months back I started a collaborative art project with my friend Lori in Los Angeles. We decided to mail each other two postcards from our hometowns. On one of the cards we created a piece of skull art and the other we left blank so that we could create a piece to mail back. I sent Lori a piece back in June (which you can see HERE) and this is the piece she recently sent me...
Now I need to get to work with the second card she sent me. The process is a great way to get some art and stay inspired. Why not give it a try and if you make some skull art in the process of course please share it with us!

Ink Skull Postcard
R W Marshall submitted this post card with an inked skull.

I like the black and white graphic quality this has. The combination of the skull with the star burst make me think of old cartoons where fight scenes would have start bursts with "CRASH", "BANG", "WHAM" and "BOOM" with every punch. This makes me want to watch the Batman TV show from the 1960s. I vividly remember watching the reruns with my great aunt on her black with white TV. I will always love that style of comics and TV.

[BONUS] 378. Postcard Skull I
A little while back I started talking with a friend who lives in LA about how we could collaborate on some skull art together and we decided that we should do a postcard exchange. We're each creating an original piece of art on a postcard and mailing it to the other and we're also mailing an unmodified postcard to each other as well, which we will then modify and send back. In the end we'll each end up with two pieces of the other's art! Here's my first piece, which went in the mail a few days ago...
I painted directly on a vintage postcard card with acrylic paint and then glued some additional text onto the bottom. I'll post the ones I receive when they arrive as well as the second one I make when it's done.
Want to give this a try? Why not pick a friend to do a mail art exchange with and document the results. And hey, if there are skulls involved send the pictures to us so we can share them with the world!
