Bacteria Skull

Niall Hamilton is a part-time microbiologist in New Zeland, who creates "art on agar"! In this case he made this fantastic skull with a "run-of-the-mill ubiquitous environmental species" of bacteria on sheep blood agar (shown after 2 days incubation)...

You can see more of his work HERE.

He says he's working on a fungal skull as well, which I'll gladly post when I get it!

What a neat idea! Niall Hamilton you need to do an Aday site of these! Petri dish pop art is all the rave how. lol. But seriously, this would be the BEST way to teach students about fungi and bacteria in the class room. You gotta take this to a school board near you. Mind if I suggest it here?

Thanks for the comment. While I've done 20 or so of these, definately haven't done 365!

Science as art always interests me, & in addition to the 'art on agar' I also do micro-photography of fungal (bacterial isn't quite as varied) growth.

Though all in all, really just a novelty.
