Apple Gourd Skull

Shawn "Zook" White, our resident creative theorist and solution engineer is back today with this painted apple gourd that should hit the sweet spot for our fruit lovers. Shawn says, "Hi-ho. Been a while since I've submitted anything to Skull-A-Day(previously here and here), and I was particularly pleased with the skull I painted this apple gourd into so thought I'd pass it along. There's a couple of other newer skull paintings on my flickr stream including two other gourds for anyone who might fancy browsing through, but the apple gourd is the crown jewel of 'em, methinks."



I can picture the evil Queen handing one of these to Snow White just before the poison takes effect. Of course she probably wouldn't have eaten the apple if it looked like this one. I mean, it's a pretty killer paint job and who would want to ruin that, right? Thanks again for the tasty submission, Shawn!

Carved Apple Skull

This reminds me of the poison apple from Disney's Snow White. A skull appeared on the apple after the step mother dipped it into the poison potion. I like how the peel of this carved apple looks a bit like parted hair. The core and browning of the apple in the eye sockets look like it's rotting, though since the browning happens quickly, it's still a fresh apple. I like how the juice oozes out of the sockets. With Fall only a few days away and the air quickly chilling, this apple makes me want an apple pie. I might have to learn how to make one of those.

Apple Core Skull

Tom Adams, who brought us the “Skelebike”, returns with a not so permanent skull. Tom wrote: “My daughter left this half finished apple sitting on the table today and I couldnt help notice how much it looked like a skull. So not wanting to waste an apple and a perfect opportunity I carved this little beauty and decided to dry it in the hot car. So here is the ‘Day One’ photo.” We learned from Tom that day that putting an apple in a hot car was a bad idea.
