Peccator Skull
Gurt Swanenberg, from The Hague, Holland, is "working on a project that depicts a modern version of the classic theme "Seven sins". I'm handpainting skulls or skeletons of animals or humans that symbolize a sin in iconographic art. The skulls are painted with modern day brands that refer to the sin." This piece is titled, "Peccator". I like the juxtaposition of skull and logos from consumer goods. This is an unusual way to use skulls in artwork, but reflects the death of our independent society when we're buried in mass consumerism. You can see more of this collection, on his website.

Skullboy Art
Skullboy in New Jersey showed us a pair of items that he created.
Fist Pump C says:
Jersey: that scary area between Philly and New York. With the large number of Superfund sites in the state it is quite appropriate to cover the state with skulls. Just teasing you, I know your are from Jersey so you can take it. Thank you for sharing your work with us.

Skull "Scope" Logo
Mark Redondo is a graphic designer from Sacramento, Ca who is currently working full-time for 5.11 Tactical. He used the company's scope logo to create this "scope skull".
That is a good motto to have in life, and you can remember it more often with this. Mark has more stuff to scope out here. Thanks for keeping us in your sights, Mark!

Sedan Grill Skull
Norm Mulone of New Orleans, La shows us his "attempt to individualize my common ride". Perhaps this is the beginning of a new "Skull My Ride" trend.

Like an good logo, it's simple yet stylish and totally recognizable. Hmmm, "Skull My Ride" sounds like it would be a HUGE hit if any networks wanted to produce it. You know where to reach me. Thanks for showing us your grill, Norm!

Luckless And Long Tooth Skulls
If you're the kind of person who " works in a stuffy corporate office where I am the one weird guy that rides a motorcycle to work and prefers to wear hotrod/counter culture tshirts" then you would have a lot in common with graphic designer Jake Heaton. He has a couple of simple and great looking skull designs with some neat backstories.
"Luckless Skull"
"A while back some friends and I organized a motor club. We are all gearheads and have been frustrated by the different clubs that were out there because they were either too specific or were too traditional... neither of these fit our interests. Thus 'The Luckless' was born and is designed to be about motors and pretty much anything they are attached to. The concept behind the name and the companion logo is that we build what we have and not just buy it, and then pass ourselves off as car guys. Sometimes this means we get burned, but in the end it's a labor of love that will be with us till we die!"
"Long Tooth"
Maybe my dreams are messed up, I'm not sure but either way that is how I found the inspiration for this skull. I woke the next morning, ran to my desk and drew out what I could remember of the skull I saw in my dream. Some refinements and trial drawings later, this is what I ended up with.
I love the idea of the Luckless Skull logo for your club. It's one thing to be a member, but when you have an official patch it just makes it that much better, right? Of course it does. If you haven't done this yet, Jake, then I suggest you do. I'd sign up just to get one. Thanks for sharing these.

dedlaast Skull
Charlotte, NC is home to graphic designer Brandon Scharr who writes, "This is a logo I had developed for myself as part of a gamertag by the name of ‘dedlaast’ many years ago (purposely misspelled). It’s gone through a few iterations during that time, but this version has pretty much stuck. It even got into the upcoming Logolounge 6 book."

To give credit where it's due, Brandon used a blood splatter vector from arsenal.gomedia.us to create this slightly more 'ded' version.

I definitely wouldn't place this skull logo dead last on my list of favorites. In fact I would have called him more of a dead eye, but if he took the head shot then that obviously isn't so. Thanks for sharing this simply bold logo, Brandon!

Logo Skulls
I thought I'd bring you all another two for Tuesday again with a pair of skull logos. First up is Lauren Conroy of Chicago with this look into the human mind. Her logo is for her web site Iwanttodrawyourbrains.com.

Next up is Skull-A-Day friend Josh Warner with the logo for his GoodArtHlywd jewelry company. Josh painted this logo on the wall of his new shop were he's still churning out kick ass pieces like these.
*p.s.- You can keep up on Josh's new pieces and travels over at his blog*
Each of these is unique yet each is similar. I love the way Lauren's anatomically correct logo makes great use of negative spacing to really dive deep into the human skull. Josh's logo is an awesome example of hard work leading to a desired result of extravagance. The skull is raw and unrefined, waiting to be polished into genuine american luxury by Josh. I hope each of you find lots of success and attract the desired attention with your logos. Thanks!

“Unholy Analog Noisemachine” Skull
Sebastien from Belgium sent the following: “I'm a noise musician in my free time and believe strongly in a DIY approach to making music. As such I also make all the graphics/logos/merch for my band myself and I've chosen a skull theme for most of it. Oh, and if you're into freaky music, you can find my stuff here.”

Simon C says:
I took an opportunity to check out your music and my preconceived notions of what to expect were completely obliterated. I really enjoy it and seeing these different versions of the ways in which you have sought to put put your music into picture form. Thank you for submitting your work for us to share and let me wish you many successes with your music project.

Super Saturday Skull Fest
Greetings, Skull-A-Day readers. It's my extreme pleasure to have my first post of the 4.0 year be another installment of the Super Saturday Skull Fest. Today's post is all about super skull maker Edward Przydzial. Ed describes himself as the embodiment of skulls. "I have been an artist all my life and my skull obsession goes back 40 years. I do tattoos, drawings, sskullptures, graphics, photoshops, props, jewelry etc. Some of my first skull arts were back when I was a kid..." These days he spends time in the Midwest and on the West coast promoting his skull business, especially as a metal smith. He even designed his own company logo.

Ed makes loads of silver skulls and some of his best are these killer skull rings. Hell, even Keith Richards himself would be proud to sport one of these bad boys. I love the way they seem to devour the fingers of the wearer.

Not only does his love of skulls go back 40 years, he even has family roots in the spooky entertainment industry. "My grandfather was Sir Graves Ghastly. He was a well known horror movie tv host and my love for the great monsters and horror was from the cradle." Ed's early days in entertainment were only a sign of what was yet to come. "If you dig around a bit my theatrical background goes back to the early 70's as I was also a classic Alice Cooper, mark 4 Kiss fan (Pete, Ace, Paul, etc) and my fantasy with fire, blood and skulls runs deep. I do breath fire as well."

Ed keeps many irons in the fire so he is also a member of many past and current metal bands. Currently he is the front man, and logo designer, of the "Bernard Edwards Project Homicide". "The music is morose, depressing doom meets thrash meets death/speed metal mixed all industrial. Undefinable in it's genre... soundscapes, neo politics and religious ideology."

We tip our hat to you, Mr. Przydzial, for all of your skully accomplishments. You live your life to the fullest in the glorification of all things skull. Your inspirations come from vast and different backgrounds, and hopefully you will inspire many more people in different ways. Keep up the great work and keep it skullified!

Are you a super skull artist? Do you find that most of your drawings and art projects are skull based? Then feel free to submit your pics and some background info for consideration into another Super Saturday Skull Fest. I can't guarantee that these will be done every Saturday, but if you provide enough quality material then I would love to show it off for you. Thanks!

[BONUS] 371. Logo Skull
After reading a recent post on forensic reconstruction of famous skulls of fiction and being reminded of a couple of great skeletal interpretations of comic characters, I thought it might be fun to uncover the skulls in some famous logos. Here's my take on the classic PBS logo (no disrespect is meant here, I'm actually a big fan!)...

I'd love to see some other logos taken to their graves. Anyone up for the challenge? Submit your skullified-logos and we'll share them on the site!
p.s. Goodwill has actually done this to their own logo already!
