A.O.M. D.O.D. Skulls

Kim DiLoreto from Medford Lakes, NJ is obviously a fan of skulls(and our site, thanks), BUUUT she also contributes to the Art-O-Mat world of vending machine dispensed art. These Day of the Dead skull paintings are made for the machines, and whoever is lucky enough to enjoy them. She was nice enough to include an awesome pic featuring a multitude of these blockheads so that we could enjoy seeing all of them. Thanks for sharing these with us, Kim!

[BONUS] 391. Art-o-mat Anniversary Skulls

As part of the original Skull-A-Day project I created a limited edition of shrunken skulls for the 10th Anniversary of the Art-o-mat. This year I was invited to participate in the 10th anniversary celebration of the Art-o-mat's presence in my hometown of Richmond, VA.

This time I created a piece that fits exactly into the cigarette pack sized boxes that the Art-o-mat machines dispense. I molded it out of Sculpey, then had it cast in plaster and hand painted each one. This is an edition of only 20 specifically for the machine that will be at The Visual Arts Center of Richmond.

My work will be featured along 16 other local artists, including both of my parents! If you're in town I highly recommend coming to the opening event this Wednesday night since it will probably be your only chance to get one of these extremely rare pieces.

Today my task was to create an edition of 50 skulls to bring to the Art-O-Mat 10th Anniversary Celebration/Swap Meet next Saturday in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Art-O-Mats are recycled cigarette vending machines that have been converted to dispense art. The brainchild of N.C. artist Clark Whittington, there are now over 80 Art-O-Mats throughout the US and even a few overseas. If you're going to be in or near Winston-Salem on the 18th of August, stop by the event, which is free to the public, and will be held at SECCA from 1-4:30. This may be your only chance to get one of these limited edition beauties.
