Dia de la Abby: #84 Sugar Skulls and Marigolds Sneakers

I had a plain pair of canvas sneakers laying around unworn, for several years. I decided to paint sugar skulls, marigolds, vines, and leaves on them. I love Dia de los Muertos motifs and often incorporate elements from the celebration, into my artwork. These sneakers are just another canvas for me, and a great way to use my artwork for practical things. Head over to my blog to see additional photos and follow the tutorial, for these sneakers! To find out what else I'm creating, follow me on Facebook, and Twitter.

Sunday Simulacra - Version 4.52

For this last week's round of simulacra for the 4.0 year I decided to post a few images that should be a staunch reminder that hidden skulls are underfoot at all times.

My wife Kendra sports these nifty little skulls on the back of her shoes.

Joel Gration found this interesting "Chewing gum on the flo'".

And near a construction site in Zurich, Switzerland Toby Melunsky dicovered this skull pebble.

Never let your eyes grow weary, skull hunters. Make it your objective to capture those hidden skulls before they GET YOU!!! Thanks again to everyone who contributed all of the great simulacra images this year. Sundays have been a tradition for these posts, and we hope you'll all continue to help us make this happen.

LONG LIVE THE SKULL HUNTERS!

Sunday Simulacra - Version 4.44

Today's skulls were found while looking down.

James Butler found this in a rug, while in Florida.

Pablo from Leicester in the UK, sent us this find. "I work at a company that produces metal giftware, and saw this blob of spilled (and flattened) metal on some carpet. T'was "ol' bony" staring back at me!"

Michelle Rautis sent us this photo. "I work with toddlers and while cleaning up one of my kids one day I looked down to see this skull hidden in the design on his shoe."

Dia de la Abby: #15 - Skulls with Lilies Shoes

Inspired by the end of summer, I decided I wanted to redo a pair of shoes. I adorned with with skulls and tiger lilies...two of my favorite things on my favorite style shoe.

On my feet. I tend to cross my legs a lot, so that is why the skulls face towards the inside. When I cross my legs, they will easily be shown.

Another reason for the skull placement, is for when I am standing, the skulls sort of match up in back forming 1 skull. It's not perfect, but you get the idea.

This project took many days to complete. Surprisingly, painting the black background took the longest. If you would like to learn how I redid a plain pair of shoes into these beautiful ones, read the tutorial. The tutorial can be used for any type of fiber shoes, (not leather, vinyl or PVC) so feel free to adapt it to a different style.

Every week in the 4.0 year, I will be post my own Dia de la Abby posts as well as a tutorial with instructions on how I made my piece. Hopefully you feel inspired by my posts just as I was by Noah's Skull-A-Day 1.0 daily project. Need more of me than just a weekly dose, follow me on Twitter and my blog, Crafty Lady Abby.

[BONUS] Stenciled Skull Shoes

It's more skull shoes for a "sole-full" Saturday. Kayla recently did a painting project and used Noah's #9 stencil skull.

Good work on the shoes, Kayla. The bright coloring camouflages the skulls for a great subtle effect.

You can find more of Noah's stencil and other goodies under the Free Stuff link at the top of the page. If you are inspired to use any of them then be sure to send us a pic so we can share it with our readers.

More Of Miykey's Skull Shoes

Skull-A-Day friend Miykey is back with another pair of fantastic looking painted shoes. In case you missed his other submissions you can see them here.

Once again you present a job well done. I can't imagine feeling depressed or in a bad mood if I were walking down the street in a pair of these. Way to keep in stride with awesomeness, Miykey! You can see more of his work here.

Funboy Skulls

Italian graphic designer Funboy is here to add some color and fun to your weekend. His first submission is this awesome set of custom painted Vans(which always seem to be a big hit with Skull-A-Day fans).

And next up is this sweet painting titled "Unlucky You".

I'm sure that the "inskullrations" flow freely when you wear these shoes. The painting is just one of many skull related pieces you can check out at Funboy's site or blog. I really liked everything I saw, Funboy. Thanks for submitting the great works.

Tuesdays With Tatman #47

As the temperatures get warmer everyday I am happy to reintroduce some of my favorite shoes to the great weather.

I call these flip flops because of the regional dialect where I grew up. I've also heard them referred to as sandals or thongs(for some reason). Maybe they call them something else where you live? Let us know if you have any kind of crazy or unusual names for this style of shoe. No matter where you are I hope you all get to enjoy flip flop weather at some point in the year.

Each Tuesday in the 3.0 year will bring a new Tuesday With Tatman. As a tribute to the Skull Master's astounding feat let's all get creative and try something new(and hopefully skull related).

Vans Skull

We have seen Noah cut at the very sole of some gym skull shoes, but Mikee puts his shoes on a little differently. Here's a pair of Vans that he's decked out for supreme skulliness.

I guess if I were cool enough I would tell you something like, "Nice kicks", but I'm not so I'll just thank you for submitting them. Thanks!

115. Gym Skull

Carved Athletic Shoes (A.K.A. Gym Shoes, Tennis Shoes, Sneakers, Trainers, etc). A hole that I recently wore into the bottom of the left shoe inspired this one.
