Mosaic Skull
This flat faced skull is the handy work of Glen Francis aka - "Mount Rockula" from Victoria, BC, Canada. Placed together like the jagged pieces of our own skulls and held together with a "skin" of grout. I only wish we could see the rest of the work that this little fella gets to look at everyday. Thanks for sharing your skull with us, Glen!

Sunday Simulacra - Version 7.11
This week's simulacrum are a combination of some real hard heads...
David Blohm of Adrian, MI found this one on a flower pot at his favorite Mexican restaurant.
Job has this long faced skull coming out of his bathroom floor.
Justyna Walewicz caught this possibly yawning stone face skull. I guess you're get tired of just sitting there all day, too.
Thanks for sharing these, David, Job, and Justyna! Don't forget to submit your own hidden skull images so we can catalog them properly amongst our archives of silent skull watchers.

Mosaic Sugar Skull Coaster Tile
This smiley stained glass skull coaster is from Faith Spicer-Jenkins in Kent, England. She created it from left over off cuts of her stained glass works. This skull is made from iridescent pink and green glass with dark blue and is 10cm Squared .
What a great way to recycle your scraps and turn them into something fun, festive, and functional. I'm sure every drink is that much better when it gets to rest upon this brightly colored brain case. Thanks for sharing your skull, Faith!

Super Embellished Skull Saturday
After visiting South America, joining a street art project mosaicing the streets of Brazil, and spending time with shamans in Peru, Lauren Baker had an epiphany of becoming an artist. She started using ethically sourced animal skulls, paint, tiles, and other embellishments to pay homage to the living creatures.
Each piece is unique and breathes it's own life back into the skull with amazing color and vibrancy. You can see that Lauren uses quite a few methods and techniques which is an awesome way of keeping things fresh and creative. Thanks for sharing the excellent works, Lauren!

Sunday Simulacra - Version 6.24
Partaking in sustenance is a necessary requirement for our skull hunters, and this also happens to be a great time and place to find those sneaky little skulls around us.
Jennifer Dzielak enjoyed this cup of "pirate coffee"....
....and Cullen Paradise was grabbing pizza with a friend and noticed this little guy in the tile floor.
No matter where you are and what you're doing the skulls will find you. When and if you're lucky enough to catch an image of one then send it to us to be recorded in the Skull-A-Day archives. Thanks Jennifer and Cullen!

Super Scholastic Skull Saturday
This Super Saturday skull collection is brought to us from James Fantini, an art teacher from Magnolia, Arkansas. This assorted collection is proof of variety being the spice of life.

Having just celebrated Thanksgiving Day I wanted to say that I'm thankful for all of the teachers out there, thankful for all of wonderful skull art we receive, and mostly thankful for all of people who help make this site happen. Thanks for another lesson, James.

Sunday Simulacra - Version 5.16
Today’s simulacra were all found in the shower.
Tyrone in Kunkletown, PA told us he found this fellow hiding on the bathroom wall.

“Bearded Jon” said: “I got out of the shower the other morning and was stared down by this splashy little guy.

Ainslee wrote: “I see this skull every time I take a shower.”
Norman C says:
Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water...
♫ Shower Simulacra! Qu'est-ce que c'est, fa fa fa fa fa... ♫
Thank you all for sharing with us some wonderful new simulacra to add to the ever growing collection.
Keep sending those pictures in to our submissions address. Just keep in mind that since we only post simulacra once a week it might take a little longer than normal for it to be posted.

Sunday Simulacra - Version 4.48
Lee Contreras found this in the door at his wife's gynecologist office.

Brittany Moomey from Vandenberg AFB wrote: “Photo taken at the La Purisima Mission in Lompoc, CA. The Mission is said to be haunted and if it isn't then that is a conveniently placed skull orb.”

Manda Malice in Texas said: “We are "Remodeling" our home & after scraping up the junk on the bathroom floor I found this.”

C. Venkman says:
♫ If there's somethin’ strange and it looks like a skull... ♫ Thank you all for submitting these wounderful finds for us to share.

Sunday Simulacra - Version 4.45
Today’s simulacra are a bit hard headed.
Kaye Reed from El Paso, TX found this rock at the Wupatki Ruins in Arizona

Ainslee showed off a granite tile

Sam Snoek-Brown, one of our regular simulacra hunters, offered what I think is a two for one. He found this skull (or skulls) while walking through his neighborhood in Abu Dhabi. He wrote: “My wife thinks it looks like Frankenstein’s monster’s skull.”

Opinionated C says:
I can't believe it is week 45 of 4.o already where has the year gone? I was going to post my own collection of simulacra that I have acquired over the last few months, but we keep getting so many wonderful submissions that I will just have to wait. Thank you all for taking the time to send in your submissions, I never tire of seeing what the world has to offer.

Super Saturday Skull Fest
Well, Skull-A-Day readers, this all started out innocently enough, but after a few emails back and forth it has gone full blown Skullmageddon! This is definitely not the norm for Skull-A-Day so please enjoy all of the pics. Hopefully it won't overload your skull.
Instigator and craftivist, Carrie Reichardt (aka The Baroness) has set out to cover London with all of her wonderful works. The first glimpse we got of her awesomeness came in the form of the "Tiki Love Truck". Carrie, Mr. Spunky, and the treatment Rooms Crew took what was a boring old truck and turned it into a rolling work of art that is still legally drivable.

In case you're wondering where she gets her skull tiles for the sweet mosaics- she makes them herself.

The mosaics can be seen at various locations in London covering entire walls of buildings. These skulls are the centerpiece of a mosaic wall mural titled "The Revolution Will Be Ceramicised".

Carrie also does a lot of work in ceramics including decorating them with transfers and adding her own skull touches to them. Currently she is helping to curate a show called "Renegade Potters and Extreme Craft" at the Ink-d gallery in Brighton, UK. It's running from March 12th-April 14th. She recently opened an Etsy shop for any of you who might be interested in purchasing something from the "Renegade Potter".

And last, but definitely not least Carrie is working on a beautiful elephant that I will let her tell you more about. "I am also very busy covering a huge resin elephant in mosaics. I am working with Nick Reynolds, and it is going to be part of the Elephant Parade , London in May. Nick has in fact, cut away half of the elephants head, and is setting back in a skeleton and I am making a foot bracelet in ceramic skulls to go round one of its feet. This event is being billed as the biggest ever public art event, when over 250 decorated elephants are exhibited around London in May. Further details can be found at Elephant Parade London 2010."

You can see a short video here that scratches the surface of the making of "Phoolan".
So in conclusion, thank you to Carrie and all of her crew for bringing us some of London's best skull makers. The art you do and the message you send is taking skull art a long way, and Skull-A-Day will be forever grateful for the creators like you.

C-Rations: 0C100001
This week’s offering is Ceramic tile.
“Unfinished” 25" X 20"approximately, arranged 2" hexagon floor tile.
Subfloor C says:
This week I found myself at the local "Do It Yourself" store. I ended up in a clearance area where I found the tiles for today's project. Not enough around for anything but an art project. As I was working on this my thoughts were with those around the world in crisis who need building materials. Everyone has an opinion on which organization is best equipped to help the most people , whichever one you like please do your part to help them respond to the current crises in the world.
Remember each Monday during the 3.0 year I am posting an original skull design. My weekly offerings are nothing compared to the one-a-day massive project done by the Skullmaster in 1.0, but hopefully you will find some nourishment in these weekly offerings.
Need more nourishment? You can always Friend or Follow.

Sunday Simulacra - Version 3.20
Today's set of simulacra come from the most common of places. Everyday places with everyday faces staring back at us.
Julie Aguilar sends us this skull tile, "and this skull was staring back at me every day in the shower on my Jamaican vacation!!"

Robin Kwok found this tile skull(although I see more than one) at the bar at Boudin at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco.

And Babette in California found this one, "From the back of a bathroom door at a Wahoo's restaurant - remnants of a hook."

Well, I'm hooked! I either need to get out to eat and drink, or maybe just take a long vacation. I'm sure the skulls will follow us all.

199. Soundproof Skull

Cut and Carved Acoustical Tile (15.5 in x 16.75 in). My good friend Charlie dropped off this tile he found in the trash yesterday, thus saving me from having to figure out what to make a skull out of today!
