Knife Spread Vegemite (6" x 7.5"). If this doesn't make me famous in Australia I don't know what will! Thanks again to Beck for sending me a jar of Vegemite to try, per her instructions (and despite protests from her fellow Aussie Kim) I ate it spread thinly on buttered toast. The verdict: strong and salty, but not horrible. Not great either, but I could see how it could grow on someone (like funky cheeses or green tea). My cats, on the other hand, think it's the greatest thing on earth and were begging for more after getting a taste!
P.S. I actually intended to make this a left-facing skull, but somehow it got turned around without me noticing!

Best title ever? I think yes
Also I really like the texture that the Vegemite has... any who, now I'm off to listen to a little Men at Work
Good one. I tried it once when I was in Ireland. A couple of Aussie girls were shlepping it all over Europe. Nasty stuff.
Whoa, you don't need to "acquire" green tea! It tastes awesome.
Ohhh... This is so creepy!
Mind you I love green tea (and stinky cheese), but to folks who've never had it, it can taste odd.
nice... the colour and translucence really make this one...
I love green tea, and stinky cheese, but it has to be a desperate situation where I will eat that stuff.
And your skull looks amazing, but it has an unfortunate aesthetic resemblance to .. another icky substance.
Also, you have kitties? <3
I love this one. Very "ancient" looking.
Marmite is nicer than Vegemite. Not sure if would make such a great skull though. What a stunner. I'm amazed at what you can do with non-art material products.
I like this "vegemart skull", nicely done:) It should be the only use that should be made of this paste...I tasted marmite one day and will never do it again. The sole fact that your cats love it proves that it's no human food!
It has a real depth to it that makes it seem more like a sculpture. Great work once again!
Very dramatic -- it has the heavy paint feel of the moderists. Excellent.
This should become a widely used art material XD I really love the depth you've got with it! :D Really original, one of my favourites.
This one looks like Tobacco Tar.
me and my friend did an experiment on tobacco in Highschool. We took 30 packs (a month's supply) and separated out the tobacco from the filter/paper. Then we boiled it in what was essentially a weak acid.
The resulting liquid was 'Pure Evil' and was foul beyond all comprehension. When we strained off the tobacco organics (leaves) and then evaporated the water off, we were left with approximately a pint of the most disgusting, putrid, vile and just plain EVIL liquid.
I still have the jar where we sealed it up in. I am told that there is approximately 300 lethal dosages of Nicotine in that pint glass. Gross. Super Gross.
Alexander... that will haunt me in my dreams forever.
Thanks for the story Alexander. Tobacco tar seems like a perfect skull making material! Not that I would actually want to work with it, mind you.
I have been visiting your site for awhile and so far I like this skull the best. Great work!! And on a side note- I am moving to Australia soon, but have no plans on eating that Vegemite. Way too salty!
Just to clear up some of the comments that I have received in responce to my story about the Tobacco:
No I don't condone smoking. It is a disgusting habit that does absolutely no good for anybody--from production to final flick out the window.
Yes, it is a pint of liquid. No it isn't in an open container. I realize I said 'pint glass' but it is really in a mason jar that I sealed up with silicone. It isn't going anywhere.
Yes, there really is that many lethal doses in that jar. But if you search for 'nicotine lethal dose' you will find out that just two cigarettes has enough Nicotine in them to be lethal. It has to be swallowed or injected, NOT SMOKED. Look it up.
The smell is surprisingly sweet--but powerful. Like getting hit in the face with a 25lb bag of sugar. No I didn't taste it. See above answer for why.
I was told vegemite tastes kind of like nutritional yeast... I love nutritional yeast on toast so I secretly hope this is true.
I think this one is one of my favorite so far... at least vegemite is good for something.
On a related note, I had an Australian friend who got send a bunch of vegemite from her family, and convinced her (American) boyfriend that it was like the Australian version of Nutella. So he put heaps of it up on his toast, and then vomited for a while. Mean, but pretty funny.
I finally caught up with my Skull A Day fixation and found the Vegemite Skull!! That rocks!
I love it that your cats like Vegemite!
I have considered the importance of Skull pins too. I always mention your site to fellow skill afficiados and it would be good to add a Skull button to my collection. Perhaps a range of 5 buttons with your favourite designs so far? And the website on one button too of course.
I would be a proud wearer of such buttons!
awesome!!!!!!!!!!!
Yay an "Australian" Skull! I feel closer already!
Vegemite is something that almost EVERYONE born in australia is bought up on! Its not really an aquired taste at all...i guess every culture and country have different things that you look at or try and decide "how the hell do they eat this?" Try it with cream cheese if you find it too salty! Or spread thin on toast with scrambled eggs! You'll change your mind! Lol He he
Aussies are :
"Happy little vegemites as bright as bright can be, we all enjoy our vegemite for breakfast lunch and tea, our mummy says we're growing stronger every single day, because we love our vegemite, we all enjoy our vegemite, its puts a rose, in every cheeeeek!
P.S Favourite skull so far!
