Sunday Simulacra - Version 7.47

This little foam skull paid a surprise birthday visit to the husband of Richelle Brown.  A superb capture by Richelle, seeing as how this momentary simulacrum was quickly vanquished by the birthday boy.  Thanks for sharing this bubbly fellow, Richelle.  Remember to submit your own hidden skull finds whenever you happen across one.  Who knows, next Sunday we could be looking at yours....

Sunday Simulacra - Version 7.31

Today's simulacrum are similar with their silly bug eyed looks. The first was spotted at the top of a glass of Guinness by Matt Morales from the Bronx, NY. He was thoroughly amused/petrified at the goofy eyes staring into his soul. The second was discovered by Meadow Campbell of Carbondale, IL. Her note included this, "Soaking okra in milk before breading/frying makes it less slimy (and delicious!). I made a batch last month and was treated to a surprise in the sink when I moved the strainer." A couple of bright eyed skulls indeed(if that's actually possible). Don't forget to submit your own skull simulacra if you are lucky enough to find them. Thanks for sharing these with us, Matt and Meadow!

Sunday Simulacra - Version 7.20

As the summer season has slipped on by for most of us, we welcome in fall and the festivities it brings. Luckily, grilling outdoors is a past time that extends to both seasons, and drinking beer is well, a year round activity. So this Sunday I would like to thank Carol Ann Dreistadt who noticed this skull in her Heineken in Woodbridge VA, and Rachel Bender for the delicious looking pork chop skull. I hope that all of you have a fall filled with similar results. Enjoy!

Sunday Simulacra - Version 6.38

Today's simulacra comes from Ryan Whisler who snared this smiling skull enjoying some good times at the Sedona Taphouse in Midlothian, VA. The light and shadow cast by the glass suggested a grinning skull that was competed with salt for the eyes and nose.

Judging by the shape of the glass and the color of the beer I would guess that this might be some type of Belgian brew.  I'll run with that idea and call this "spirit" Bernie the Belgian Beer Glass Skull.  Everyone has a great time when Bernie makes an appearance.  Thanks for sharing your good time with us, Ryan!

p.s.- I couldn't agree more with the coaster.

Sunday Simulacra - Version 5.8

Today's skulls were found in beverages.

Magskull (Mag = Portuguese for "skinny" + "skull") found this skull in their coffee.

Al Frank in Austin, TX found this skull on the lid of his drink.

Stacy in Sasebo, Japan said "So, I pour myself a nice cold glass of Asahi, and this is what I found a few minutes later."

Irish Stout Foam Skull

This delicious looking pint was drawn by Jim Carney, a bartender at G-Daddy's BBC in Milwaukee,WI. He writes, "I love skulls and get a little bored of drawing clovers on my Stouts. Thank you for having a blog dedicated to skulls. I feel like the kid that said, 'I like turtles'."

Thanks for the pint, the great laugh, and the awesome foam skull, Jim. Since this is a traditional Irish brew I'll send a (not so)traditional Irish toast to you:

"May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be ever at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your skull and the rain fall softly on your fields. And until we meet again, may Skull-A-Day be your favorite blog to share."

Sunday Simulacra - Version 4.43

I don't know what it is about the combination of adult beverages and the appearance of skulls, but this week the two go hand in hand with another round of superb finds from our skull hunters.

Abi Sweigart of Dayton, Ohio writes, "Some time ago, my best friend and I went for a girls night out... which, with us means beer, wings and chocolate cake :) At one point I look down and see that there is a skull in the remaining head of my beer! I was so excited that I took the picture with my phone!"

Jon Presson recalls a strangely similar encounter, "Strange things can happen while at the bar. I lifted my beer and found this fellow hanging out underneath. I'm just just glad I didn't see him thru the bottom of the bottle."

And Ainslee Lara found this skull hiding on a wine bottle. She highlighted her find to help show the elusivenss of these sneaky characters.

Once agin I raise my glass to those brave skull hunters out there capturing their prizes to submit to us. I promise that if you keep them coming then we'll continue to display them. Thanks!

Sunday Simulacra - Version 4.34

As our skull hunters continue their search high & low we follow them on their never ending quest for those hidden skulls among us...

Eike Beck of Designers Skulls found one on this public ashtray by a bus stop. He writes that it, "May be the daily reminder that smoking could kill you. So I keep on drinking."

Our next two hunters follow Eike's idea and find their own floating friends. Jean-Baptiste Bellon found this wickedly, frothy fellow hanging out at the pub.

And Addy from Milwaukee, WI found this skull in her glass of P.B.R.- A.S.A.P.!

With today being a big day for American football, I think I'll follow suit to my nearest pub today and keep up the good hunt. If you capture a skull simulacra of your own then please submit it to us to share. Just remember that since we do this only once a week it could take a little while to get posted. Thanks!

Sunday Simulacra - Version 4.31

As the seconds pass, days move on, and time continues it's inevitable progression into a new year our skull hunters stay on the look out with keen eyes and quick cameras.

Christopher Duis encoutered this stoic skull in the woods near Wittenborn, Northern Germany. If you look close you'll see the creepy crawly friends that keep this skull company.

Rachael Monte of Toms River, NJ "ordered a pint of beet beer and when it arrived, I saw this top half of a skull floating on the top in the foam".

And to wrap up the skulliday season John Angelo spotted this sneaky skull. "This was a decorative coaster/holder my mother-in-law had at her house. It depicts Santa's jolly head. But when I saw it reversed (turned around), all I could see was a skull. Everyone agreed and reasoned it could be a device used for two holidays - Christmas and Halloween!".

It ought to be obvious to everyone now. As long as time keeps moving on the skull hunters will keep finding these hidden treasures. No one can keep the secret skulls down. If you find one of your own, be sure to submit it to us to archive for the other skull hunters to see. Thanks!

Sunday Simulacra - Version 4.28

As the saying goes, "When life gives you skulls, make sure you send them in to Skull-A-Day".

Clayton Bishop of Dalton, Ga spotted this toothy skull smiling at the passing motorists.

MIRAMBO from London, Ont. had this skull friend visit her at the pub. "I spilled my beer and the splash made quite a distinct skull. After I took a picture of it people came over to see what we were looking at and were just as thrown back as my friends and I were. The owner of the bar actually covered it with a bar stool so as to protect it for the remainder of the night to show other patrons."

And finally, we have this piece of skullverware discovered by Skull Master Noah. A bit of a stylized skull to accompany him at a dinner party.

Thanks to you all for the great submissions. Don't forget the saying and be sure to keep submitting all of your skull discoveries.

Sunday Simulacra - Version 4.26

Today, we have some fine examples of skulls found in a drink and food. Such great examples, that I'm going to have to start hunting for more skulls in what I drink and eat.

Julia Orloff from Bellingham, Washington said, "This appeared after finishing my Boundary Bay Scotch Ale. The finest brew in town!"

I think a skull brew would have to be the finest one in town. Maybe one day, I will have one.

Dave Chimp from Berlin, said "My girlfriend Flavie was preparing dinner tonight (peppers and chicken with lemon, followed by a raspberry cheesecake - my girlfriend rules!) when I saw this beauty of a grinning skull. Of course I thought of Skull-A-Day."

I'm glad you thought of us to share this sinister pepper with. That is a great meal. Your girlfriend does rule!

Jonathan from Verona in Italy, found this skull in swiss cheese.

Swiss cheese is both flavorful and neat to see what shapes the bubbles form. I'm going to have to start searching for skull shapes in the swiss cheese I eat.

Keep sending those pictures in to our submissions address. Just keep in mind that since we only post simulacra once a week it might take a little longer than normal for it to be posted.

Sunday Simulacra - Version 4.17

This week's skulls were found in while drinking and eating.

Jason Kidd from Austin, TX said this "cool guy appeared as the beer was almost finished".

John Angelo found this smiley skull in an onion.

John Angelo and his family also, found this skull "while making S'mores in Lassen Volcanic National Park".

Great finds guys, keep up the great hunting work! I suddenly want a beer, s'mores and chili...for the onion to be used.

Keep sending those pictures in to our submissions address. Just keep in mind that since we only post simulacra once a week it might take a little longer than normal for it to be posted.

Sunday Simulacra - Version 4.1

To kick off the new 4.0 year I wanted to share some really good simulacrum to start the year off right.

This first find is from skull hunter Scott Bolan who found it in an appropriate place. He writes, "These are two photos of a cemetery in Huaycan Peru. I was there working with a non-profit organization called the Light and Leadership Organization. The picture is from zone Z in Huaycan Peru. A settlement outside of Lima Peru that was created to escape a terrorist organization call The Shining Path."

Second, skull hunter Jeanette Bueno Verastegui sends greetings and a skull from Monterrey, NL Mexico. "I have several photos of a skull shape that I saw when I was about to drink my beer. I love skulls, but I sure I did not manipulate it."

And last we received this from skull hunter Matthew Gibney who simply states, "These are spots on Bobby's pup Sarah."

Thanks again, skull hunters, for keeping your eyes open and submitting these for us to show. If any of you other skull hunters out there find some simulacra then please submit them and we can keep this Sunday tradition alive(and dead). Just remember that it may take a little longer to get posted since we only do this once a week.

Sunday Simulacra - Version 3.34

This week's round of simulacra is an expression of cause and effect.

First up is from regular contributor, President Wishnack. He writes, "I couldn't remember if you'd done this or not, but it sort of happened half accidentally, half on purpose while in the kitchen.", thus showing the effects of beer on the brain.

Kevin Greenham shows us how beer can cause reminiscing when enjoyed properly. He writes, "I took this picture in the bar Ellangowan Hotel in Creetown Scotland, which is the bar used for the exterior of the "Green Man" in the 1973 version of the 'Wicker Man'. Hope you like it."

And lastly, we can see what the effect of one to many beer skulls could be, but not in this case. Erin from N.C. fills us in, "my son was rough-housing with my husband and had a run in with a cousin's head. this is about five days into the injury and last night i noticed a skull and crossbones on his bruise. i took a few pics and asked some friends if they saw anything. the jolly roger was highly noticed!"

Now we can all see how seeing skulls everywhere affects us daily. Thanks to all of you for being on the lookout for more causes of skull simulacra. Keep them coming to the submissions inbox and don't forget that since we only do this once a week it may take a little longer before it gets posted.

Sunday Simulacra - Version 3.4

Once again our readers turn bounty hunters and search out the skulls hiding amongst us.

Birthday Girl Dawn tells us, "My birthday was in February and some of my co-workers decorated my car with chalk, happy b-day etc. This was a happy face on the driver's side window and after 3 months of not washing the chalk off the result was an accidental skull in the right eye of the face! How can I wash my car now?"

Ummm, you can't.

Pub attendee Matt writes us, "Hello. I just stumbled on your great site. Here's an image of a skull in a pint glass that I always liked. Cheers."

That might explain the "stumbling".

And of course, yours truly has the skull eye. This guy showed up on my foot after my new flip flops got wet.

Okay now, all of you would be skull hunters, we can't do this without you. Get your skull eyes open and submit your hidden simulacra. Just remember, we only do this once a week so it may be a while before we post the face of your fugitive.
