The Skull Quilt Project: Paper Cloth Skull

Jennifer Gorman of, Art Every Day, sent us this skull quilt block. Per her related post, this is made with "floral black base square topped with skull paper cloth, embellished with buttons". The textures and colors of it are more amazing in person. I'm still in awe of how she made this.

I'm enjoying seeing the variety of skulls, using different techniques. This project is definitely about experimenting with different mediums, that are applied to a 12"x12" cotton square. Leave 1 in around for seam allowance...this means you have 10"x10" of working room. Remember, these blocks are for art quilts, vs. the kind that keep you warm. They will be made to hang on walls. I'm looking forward to seeing more beautiful blocks.

If you would like to participate in this project, send your finished skull quilt squares to:

Skull-A-Day
PO Box 73236
Richmond, VA 23235

On a note sent with the piece, please include:
  • Your name
  • Your city, state and/or country
  • Your email...so I can tell you when yours arrives.

If you have any questions about the project, feel free to email me at abby@skulladay.com

The deadline for the skull blocks is Saturday, May 28, 2011, Skull Appreciation Day. We are currently working on a Richmond, VA event for this, which should have the quilts displayed. Afterwards, the quilts will be auctioned off and the proceeds will go to Becky's Fund, which is an organization that helps victims of domestic violence.

Great Project. Can't wait to see the submissions and final quilts. I'll certainly be submitting one.
