363. Skullusion

Arranged Models & Props. Inspired by several well known optical illusion illustrations. The image was created entirely live. Photoshop was only used to adjust contrast in the image and add sepia toning. Thanks to my friends Shelia and Nathan who were awesomely patient models; Mimi who let me take over one of the dressing rooms in her fantastic store Exile and use her merchandise to dress the set; and Philip who helped with lighting! So what's the story behind this image? What do you imagine these folks might be talking about?

I imagine they're discussing how they plan to use the poison in the jar to kill off her horrible husband. I know...no imagination.

Oh please don't stop making skulls after the next two! It would be really sad to not have these to look at anymore.

This one is fantastic! You are such a great artist. I love this image. Peace and many blessings, Annie

They look focused, but not harrowed. They are not looking at each other, or at anything in particular, so they are clearly deep in thought. They are seeking a solution for something that requires a moment of thought, but it's not an interpersonal problem.

I think they are working on a logic puzzle, or designing a data model, or something in that vein. But I would think that...

The photo is beautiful. :)

Here's a comment that got e-mailed to me...

"'Sally and Fred sat silently at the table, unable to meet the other's eyes. Neither wanted to take Mother home for the holidays.'

Simply stunning...

I think they are thinking about what life will be like for them without a new skull everyday!

they are discussing what Noah will do for the last post on skull-a-day before the curtain falls...

i'm pretty sure they're being married by the world's tiniest minister (a death's head moth) and wedding party (mostly ants ladybirds), which are all going back into the bottle as soon as everyone eats cake and rocks the conga line.
Lovely shot, Noah.
