Photomontage Skulls

Lola Dupre, from Glasgow, Scotland, submitted these two photomontage pieces.

This one reminds me of the elongated skulls from Nazca, Peru. Body modification has interested me since I was a child. I am enthralled with different cultures who chose to alter their self in such a way, that long after they are dead and just bones, you can still see the evidence of modification of the basic human form. In this case, wooden boards were tied to infants heads to elongate their cranium. The reason it thought to be to honor a god, which archaeologists suspect might be alien.

This reminds me of a drop of liquid. Combined with the image of a skull, it makes me think this is a drop of poison that would lead to death. There are many poison that occur in nature. Some are not easy to detect. It's interesting to find what a deadly world we live in. We think of common deadly poisons as things found under your kitchen sink...or where ever you keep your cleaners, but the most common ones are found in nature. With that being said, some of the best cleaning agents, are also natural and not deadly. It's an odd balance.
